Default Re: ESPN Insider Request

With a head coach with a defensive pedigree reportedly coming to town to take over as Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, the big question remaining for the club is who will be the offensive coordinator?

Stephen Holder of the Tampa Bay Times notes that with Greg Schiano coming from the NCAA level, his ties to NFL coaching personnel are not as readily known as would be the case for some of the other candidates.

Here's one connection, courtesy of Mike Jurecki of XTRA 910: Arizona Cardinals wide receivers coach John McNulty, who was Schiano's OC and QB coach at Rutgers from 2004 to 2008. Jurecki isn't saying that McNulty is definitely on the radar, but it's a logical fit.

ESPN NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas discusses the steps ahead for whoever gets the OC gig under Schiano:

Talented group needs a new voice

"The talent starts with quarterback Josh Freeman, who was impressive in 2010, but took a step back in 2011. The new offensive coordinator's first order of business will be to get Freeman back on track. Same for receiver Mike Williams and running back LeGarrette Blount, who each slumped after strong rookie seasons in 2010. Tampa Bay has some talent on the offensive line with guard Davin Joseph, center Jeff Faine and left tackle Donald Penn, but could use some other upgrades on the line."
