    Default Pink Floyd 1970-1980

Is there any other artist in rock and roll [I'm excluding Jazz and classical for obvious reasons] that had a better 10 year run?

    Atom Heart Mother [1970]
    Meddle [1971]
    Obscured By Clouds [1972]
the Dark Side Of the Moon [1973]
    Wish You Were Here [1975]
    Animals [1977]
    the Wall [1979]

I'm looking for suggestions because if It's on par with this, then I'd really like to hear it.

I'll be at the Roger Waters concert on Tuesday. I am kinda excited. I've seen Pink Floyd in concert once back in the early 90s but it was w/o Waters. Never seen Waters live so I'm looking forward to it.

I just hope he will keep his politicking to a minimum. I don't want to hear his political rants, just his music!

BTW, you should include The Final Cut on your list. I know it wasn't released until '83, but most of not all of the tracks were written around the same time The Wall was.

Oh, I think The Beatles might give them a run for their money.

Crazy amount of albums released in the 60s

Guess it depends what your definition of a quality 10 years is. There are plenty of artists who put out 2 or 3 albums in that time span that I would rather have than that whole pink floyd collection. So from my perspective that would make for a better 10 year run. But it seems like you're taking quantity into the equation too so......meh.

Yeah the first few albums on this list leave a lot to be desired. Syd's departure left a gaping hole of creativity and the Gilmour lineup didn't exactly hit the ground running. As great as the last four are, if we're picking a single ten year span to call the best I'm not taking one with lemons.

Although, there really aren't any bands that put out consistently great albums for 10 straight years without missing once or twice so maybe that's unreasonable.

    Also deserving mention:

Bob Dylan -9 albums in the 60's, 10 albums in the 70's, 7 albums in the 80s. -That's nuts!

Also, Grateful Dead -15 albums between '67-'78

Just picked up The Wall at a thrift store for a buck fifty. Never realized it was a concept album....good stuff. Not a huge, huge Floyd fan, but it's good Classic Rock nonetheless.

Yeah man, it's pretty weird that Pink Floyd made a concept album.

lol not sure if this is sarcasm or not (I'm assuming it is), but a bunch of their albums were concept albums.

to the people who bash on the early floyd-
"atomheat mother" and "meddle" both contain plenty of miscues, but plenty of classic tunes. and where the eff is "ummagumma" on that list???

Syd's departure left a gaping hole of creativity and the Gilmour lineup didn't exactly hit the ground running.
you 'syd fans' are some of the most amazing hypocrites i've ever heard. when discussing great rock, alterna-rock, art-rock, or any other form of rock, you people are never to be found and never to be heard from.

yet when discussing pink floyd greatness, there's always a couple of you cockroaches scurrying out of the woodwork, trying to put other people down over nothing.

FACT: i own the entire pink floyd catalogue, most of it on vinyl, and the syd barrett stuff is without a doubt the weakest material they ever recorded. at best, it sounds like 3rd-rate 60's psychadelic music.

if one was actually interested in hearing the best of 60's psychadelia, one could always tune in to free internet radio:

EDIT- BTW, yes there is nobody in the history of rock who came close to outdoing the beatles over ten years. even better was their five-year span from about 1965-1970... simply staggering in output, creativity and sheer excellence.
