Good for him. This is basically a shootaround for Durant.

I just noticed why Durant has trouble putting on muscle, and or taking physical defense well in this video. The kid has really narrow, almost women-esque shoulders. They aren't broad, and don't look like they could have muscle packed on his frame.

Except, was it 56 or 66? It looked like the announcer was saying "Fifty Three!"
    The game wasn't over.

And for everyone saying "yeah but it's only Rucker, 66 isn't impressive" -- Kobe went to Rucker a few years back, and didn't score anywhere near 66, and had some trouble adjusting to the game. It was rainy that day, and KD plays a lot more streetball so he is adjusted, but it goes to show you that it isn't your average pickup game.

Dude has never even dared play at the Rucker.

    Stick to the clown ish.

Rucker is about showing people up w/ fancy moves, yes ... but it's a smaller part of the game than And 1, and it's still REAL basketball. They still are about scoring, playing defense, and more importantly WINNING.

That dude wouldn't be able to do a quarter of the stuff he does with even Rucker Park rules, and especially not when people actually play defense.

Joe "The Destroyer" Hammond was a scorer, plain and simple. Joe did most of his scoring at Rucker Park in New York, on one occasion dropping 50 points in one half on Dr. J Julius Irving. He also set a Rucker Park single game scoring record with 82 points.

Straight LIES, right here. SMH ...

Kobe wasn't going NEAR as hard as Durant. He went out to have some fun. And no, he didn't have trouble "adjusting" ... dude played in the Philly streets all the time. He knew how to play streetball.

He was killing people with crossovers, spin moves into jumpers. My college teammate was the recipient of one of the moves too. (guy in the red shorts, when the announcer says "look mommy, I guarded a Kobe ... he SHOT IT IN MY FACE !!!"

Watch Kobe's expressions, he was clearly being nonchalant.

Kobe clearly wasn't going out looking to jack shots everytime down. It was also a different era at the Rucker in 2003. It was still during the height of the "And 1" craze, and Kobe just went out there and was goofing around.

Iverson went out there and goofed around one year early in his career.

Marbury played there every summer for Fat Joe's squad.

Francis showed out in a big way w/ his handles there one summer.

Jamal Tinsely showed out in a big way w/ his handles there one summer.

    Baron Davis played well there.

Jermaine O'Neal was kind of shook when he went there.

Vince Carter went there, played in Gauchos gym though due to rain and KILLED it.

None were out there trying to drop 60+ though.

I agree with what your saying.

I never said Kobe was trying to kill it. My entire point was that it's not just a sloppy pickup game.

And maybe my memory faded, I remember Kobe coming out a little slow and putting up some bricks? Maybe I am wrong, but that's not the point I was making.

And KD does play more streetball than Kobe did.

As a pro? Sure. He plays in Goodman League every summer the past 3 - 4 years.

Personally if I was an NBA player. I would do it maybe once just to be mythic. And I'd only do it at Rucker.

The summer should be for honing your craft behind closed doors, w/ little eyes viewing.

That way the next season you catch people by suprise with new elements to your game.

Durant can light up just about any New Yorker with a 6'11 jumpshot. He kills it at his own league in DC. Im from New York but Im not making my way uptown to his game and I wont regret it.

Yup, exactly. Kobe went once, did his thing, and became a "legend" (NY to this day adores the guy). Funny you mentioned 'honing skills behind closed doors'. Kobe became a totally different player in 2003 (the Rucker game was during the 2002 off-season). Showed us scoring skills we haven't seen since MJ. The difference between 2002 and 2003 Kobe is startling really.

Didn't think he had the ability to hone some of those skills we saw during that streak of nine 40+ point games.
