i got lasik in 2009. i paid about the same, $2,200 total which included initial screening, checkups, surgery, follow ups etc. i went from -8.5 to 20/20!! if i didnt have my contacts on, and you were standing a foot away from me, i could tell someone was standing there but i couldnt see any of your facial features. LOL. pretty bad.

    i wish i got 20/15 but 20/20 is excellent!

if you are considering it, dont think twice, it will be the best investment you ever make. for those who have pretty bad eyesight, its worth every penny.

Ironic my thread was bumped since I went to the eye doctor today. Going back in 6 months to make sure my vision hasn't changed and if not (it really shouldn't, it's only slightly changed in years) then I'll be getting it next summer.

I have full blown astigmatism now. It sucks. Normal contacts are about $25 a box, give or take, mine are well over $100 a box.

Because of the astigmatism. My doctor explained the costs to me once before but I can't remember.

Lasik Surgery in the Philippines are much cheaper and safer.

    Hi!

Thank you for your interest in Laser Refractive Surgery (Lasik,Lasek,PRK,etc). To answer your question: it depends on the eye.

    Anyway, we have two options:

    OPTION 1 (HIGH QUALITY )

2012 Price at St.Luke's has temporarily DROPPED! This will last up to May or June only.

    Our packaged rates
Procedure ----------------------------- Regular Price Promo price
    1. PRK / eye Surgery ------------------ Php 35,715 30,000
    2. PRK both eyes ---------------------- Php 69,048 58,000
    3. Conventional LASIK both eyes Php 77,381 65,000
    4. Conventional LASIK one eyes Php 39,286 33,000
    4.VisuMax Femtosecond LASIK/eye Php 62,000 55,000
    5. VisuMax Femto LASIK both eyes Php 110,000 88,000

Your credit card can be used here.

    This includes:
    1)Hospital Fee
    2)Surgeon's Fee
    3)Assist Fee
4)Medications During and immediately after surgery
    5) LIFE TIME WARRANTY on the laser procedure done (follow-up and retouching)
    6) Free transport service to and from St.Luke's-QC for screening and on surgery day (allow one week advance notice please)

Additional Screening Fee at St.Luke's is P 3,528

Screenings may be done at either St.Luke's QC or St.Luke's Global City
Surgery can be done at St.Luke's Global City or QC
Followups for my patients are preferably at St.Luke's QC
Transportation service to and from st.luke's on surgery day can be arranged the usual way.

It’s expensive but remember… This is your eye and quality does come at a price

For screenings at St.Luke's QC, please call 722-2965 or 7230101 Loc 4142 and look for Mae or Melanie. Tell them you want to set up a Lasik Screen with Dr. Richie Nepomuceno. Ideally it would be on Saturdays so I can be there personally. Monday to Thursday is also okay but a colleague of mine will do the screening for me and I'll evaluate your records afterward and give you a call.

For screenings at St.Luke's Global City, please call 7897700 loc 2020 and look for Thur or Weng. Tell them you want to set up a Lasik Screen with Dr. Richie Nepomuceno. Ideally it would be on a Saturday morning so I can be there personally. Monday to Friday is also okay but a colleague of mine will do the screening for me and I'll evaluate your records afterward and give you a call.

What you need to remember is that you need to be OFF soft contact lenses for 3-4 days prior to the screening and surgery. If you wear hard contact lenses (RGP's,etc) then you need to be OFF these for about 2 weeks. Please allot 3 hours for the screening as we need to do a lot of tests to be sure it's safe for you. Please bring a companion on the day of screening as we will dilate your eyes and it would be difficult to drive for about 4 hours. Things will also be relatively bright during this time.

    ========

OPTION 2 (BANG FOR BUCK….BEST BUY)
2012 Price at Fatima (both eyes, all in) Lasik is P54,000 while PRK/Lasek P50,000. The screening fee is an additional P1,500. At present, I have a 10K discount on my PF for PRK cash payments up to April 30, 2012 (So PRK is just 40K) . Sometimes we need to have additional tests done that will cost from 1-2K more.

    This Includes:
    1)Hospital Fee
    2)Surgeon's Fee
    3)Assist Fee
4)Some Medications During and immediately after surgery
    5) 12 months follow-up and retouching (NOT life time)
    6) Free transportation service to Fatima for screening day & day of surgery.

Why is there a price difference? Quality comes at a price. St.Luke's Eye Center is JCIA accredited and has been operational since 2000. Fatima is NOT accredited by such a prestigious international quality control organization and started operations last 2007.

For my patients who are on a tight budget, Fatima is the way to go. Nobody else can match it “Bang for Buck”. Cheaper centers do not use the highly advanced Zeis MEL-80 laser platform. There are a few things we need to consider for Fatima Laser Surgeries:
    1. there are some tests we still need to do at St.Luke’s which cost approximately 1K– 2K only.
    2. Even if the transportation to and from Fatima on Surgery day is on us, the follow-ups must be done on Fatima. My schedule there is Wednesday mornings. An alternative many of my patients do is have the follow up tests done at Fatima at their convenient time (office hours ofcourse), then see me for followup at my other clinics in Manila or Quezon City.

In other words, you get what you pay for at St.Luke’s…while you get a lot more bang for your buck at Fatima  Don’t get me wrong… okay na rin naman sa Fatima. To demonstrate, here’s a Philippine Daily Inquirer article on choosing a lasik center.

I've thought about it. My vision is fine up close, but starts to get bad 2-3 metres away. Have glasses which I wear sometimes for things I need like driving. Still, I've heard the horror stories and they made me slightly paranoid.

My dad had it done like 10-15 years ago when it had just come out. It seems to have worked really well for him. It's only $1000 an eye here I believe.
