That's funny. Is your wife British? I don't hear "bloody" used as an adjective too often.
I usually skim through thick imagery in all books because I find it hard to picture what an author is trying to express through words. Of course a setting like a sunset shouldn't need excessive elaboration, but some authors like to emphasize the more intricate/important settings with a generous amount of detail.
