GOAT jazz album imo

that's the opening track "solo dancer" from charles mingus' album 'the black saint and the sinner lady'
i can literally stay seated and listen to this CD play through front to end and not mind one bit... the visuals it gives me and story it depicts are outstanding

great selection, HDG. you got some dope taste, no doubt. so tough to state the GOAT jazz album, or even my favourite.
a couple come to mind for me, though. idris muhammad's 'power of soul', and coltrane's 'a love supreme' (cliched, but you can't beat that album for raw passion from a musician) are two albums i can listen to literally 20 times in a row and not get sick of them.
here's an ill cover of funkadelic's 'i'll stay' by roy hargrove, featuring d'angelo. it's funny, d pretty much dropped off the scene since releasing 'voodoo', only popping up a couple of times (on this track and that dilla joint). still has that amazing vocal tone, though. hopefully he gets his ish together for a new record
roy ayers - searching

Re: the ultimate ish otc funk/soul/jazz thread
listened to the roy ayers track last nite after a nice J... it was phat
listing favorite jazz albums is usually hard for me too, but there's just something about the black saint and the sinner lady that gets me every listen... it was made as a ballet, so i guess that's where the story part comes in but the visuals it gives me is what really hits me most about the album

Re: the ultimate ish otc funk/soul/jazz thread
my favorite jazz musician has to be pops... there's something about that early swing era sound that i love. he just played the hell out of that trumpet with so much power and passion... a few great examples
west end blues
