Fuck no, this is a terrible idea. I'd rather let Brittney Griner post me up than have to look at this shit for a full year.

some ads look okay like in the premier league - very few of them and they are colour neutral (usually just black or white, or they match the uniform).
the ads are there, but they don't take over the uniform.
It works with soccer, because the jerseys often don't have the team names on them, but just a little emblem or team logo (as shown above). Also you have (short) sleeves on which you can put advertisements.
I like the NBA jerseys as they are... where would these adverisements be placed? Below the jersey number on the front or back? on the shorts? There's hardly any good room for it:
They could put the main sponsor (adidas, kia or whatever) on it like they do with replica jerseys (adidas logo in this case):
That wouldnt be too bad.
I don't wanna see this in the NBA:

I can live with this, pretty sure the NFL puts that on their jerseys to?

Re: What do you think of the idea of sponsor ads being on player jerseys?
With clubs (soccer, tho they all have basketball teams as well), each club works out their own kit sponsor and their own contract, such as Nike, Adidas, etc.
The NBA is full of franchises. Just like MLS. In MLS, Adidas makes every jersey. And then, each individual sponsor, that's stupid. It makes no sense. The NBA is all Reebok or all Adidas, I forget. But it's different. And seeing sponsors is stupid.
As far as the look and how terrible an idea that is...in soccer, you don't have the name of the club on the front of the jersey. They have emblems and that's it. Also, outside of international ball, there are no numbers on the front of the jerseys. So, these jerseys with sleeves have a complete empty space on the front. Basketball jerseys have the team name spelled out, as well as the numbers.
It's just stupid.

Buy ad space on the hardwood. Problem solved

The two aren't related. It doesn't happen in football (yeah I'm British so I'm sticking with football) because there isn't the chance to. And as a football fan I've got to say I hate watching the end of tight NBA games. You end up with with 3 minute ad breaks for each 20 seconds of action (thinking of an NY Boston game this year in particular but I imagine it happens all the time). It kills the sense of drama and the narrative of the game.
Yes it would be done out of the profit motive (greed) but then if you didn't like advertising in basketball because it makes it commercial/greedy you haven't been watching basketball. Still if people do kick up enough of a fuss it would go away. Still I'm too young to remember but I imagine people said the same stuff for football in 1970's and Formula 1 racing in the 60's.

Wait so you hate this change, but think Dolan is stupid for opposing change. I like teams to stick to their colours, when I think Cavs I think Orange (and blue) so their red gear just looks weird to me. That's far more important to their brand/image than whether advertising is on.

Yeah this sort of stuff is a bit beyond the pail for me. Armani Jeans Milan, Westfield Sharks Sheffield etc. Still I think the Quicken Loans Arena sounds ridiculous too so ...
Anyway it would be down to individual teams so if Boston decided they wanted to keep the Celtic green untainted by comercialism they would be free to do so. Barcelona did this in football (soccer) for a long time, then put a charity on and only in 2010 did they put advertisments (for the Qatar Foundation) on.

Re: What do you think of the idea of sponsor ads being on player jerseys?
Its inevitable, and when it does come, it will be a non-issue. Teams will figure out tasteful ways to incorporate sponsors' names and logo into the uniform designs. Fans won't care, as long as the quality of the play remains hight.
Non-issue.

You have to think about the players too...
They are losing their team identity and being labled as a product.
If anything I see the level of play going down.

Re: What do you think of the idea of sponsor ads being on player jerseys?
as if they don't make enough money from ads already
watching nba games live is horrible especially at the end of close games
even worse when you are living in europe, seeing blakes kia commercial for the 300th time at 3am on a weekday is frustrating
and now make the jerseys look horrible as well

Some big overreactions here.
It will happen, and it will be fine. It doesn't destroy everything. The world will not end. Stop being crybabies.
I see it appearing like the Australian AFL jerseys - small one on shoulder, and a large one under number on back.
Team changes sponsor? Everyone buys new jersey. Rock the older jerseys will some weird old sponsor on it? Thats swag.
It doesnt effect the look of spectacular plays etc.
