Lakers reportedly offered him the job. Unless Sterling purchases the lakers, I don't see Scott turning it down. He's been calling himself the "perfect coach" for the situation. I would tend to agree. Lets hope he can turn this team around for entertainment purposes.

I wanted Scott from the jump....

So if this is all finalized this weekend I will be a very happy man.
He is one of my favorite Showtime players after Magic Kareem and Worthy of course. Lol. Just a slight edge over Rambis and Coop.

I need to get a B Scott throwback jersey!!!

The most reasonable replacement. He's not the best.

When I think of him, the words "good coach" always come to mind. I'll be happy with the season regardless of how it turns out. Hopefully people don't start throwing Byron under the bus when things get bad.

The Los Angeles Lakers have waited nearly three months to hire a new coach, and they're apparently making Byron Scott wait a few more days.

Scott said this weekend that he has been hired by the Lakers, but the club insisted Sunday that no deal has been reached.

Scott, who won three NBA titles as a shooting guard for the Lakers, told KCBS-TV he will take over the club, which hasn't had a coach since Mike D'Antoni resigned April 30.

"It feels fantastic," he told KCBS. "This is a dream come true. I always wanted to coach the Lakers, especially when I got to coaching. It's so unreal. I have to thank (general manager) Mitch (Kupchak), (owners) Jeanie and Jim Buss to give me this opportunity."

Scott said he's been texting with Lakers star Kobe Bryant throughout the summer and conferring about this year's team. Bryant texted Scott this weekend after news broke that he had accepted the job.

"He told me he was working out with Wesley [Johnson] and Nick [Young," Scott said. "I told them that sounded great, but 'They better be ready to play some defense.' "

Scott laughed, but he was serious about the message. The Showtime-era Lakers were known for their offense, but they won championships because of their defense. Scott said he intends to bring that edge and discipline to this year's team.

Good hire, I would agree... funny that he will be the Lakers second Cavs coach decision in the last few years... coincidence...lol

I have read that Scott has a "Pat Riley" approach which can bring championship players together, but that he can also wear on them. Not sure how he will do, but hopefully he will have the ability to influence the roster to get players that he wants over time.

Defense wins titles and Scott knows this!

It took quite a while, but at least the Lakers hired a good coach this time. It's going to be tough for him this season though. This Lakers roster is not very good and they need a few years to rebuild. Hopefully the fans can be patient.

Byron Scott was a key component of the Los Angeles Lakers' Showtime teams, a smooth shooting guard with sizzling competitive fire. He believes his purple-and-gold championship pedigree makes him the ideal coach to return the struggling 16-time champions to NBA contention.

"This organization is all about championships, period," Scott said Tuesday at his introductory news conference. "We don't look at Western Conference finals, Western Conference championships. We look at (NBA) championships. And we know we have some work ahead of us, but I'm excited. ... I love challenges anyway, so this is going to be fun."
