Ewing doesn't cut it as a first option?
His defense is legendary, and he also averaged 28.5 points per game one season (21 ppg on 50% throughout his career) so clearly he had offense as well... on top of that, the team he led was one game saving block away (certainly one game away whatever your interpretation of the events) from a championship.

That said, I'm voting Cowens this time. 70s players don't get enough recognition.
