Defense will improve as the season goes on regardless of who's coaching. Dwight's still not 100% so his timing is a little off still and the turnovers leading to transition buckets will cut down as chemistry builds. D'antoni tapping into the biggest potential offensive weapon is huge.

Re: Mike D'Antoni signs a four-year deal with the Lakers
Come on guys,Knicks didn't play defense until Mike Woodson arrived as a defensive assistant. Even then they were only like top10 or top15 defense of the league and had a bad record (under .500). When Woodson took over the progress in defense and effort was evident, they were a top5 defensive team in the league last season under him and this season they are the best defensive team in the league.
Also Knicks didn't have the players that D'Antoni likes for his offense (Lakers roster also don't fit very well) and their offense was HORRIBLE.
So in short: Mike D'Antoni is no offensive genius, his coaching on the defensive end is terrible,he doesn't know when to call timeout and the players don't even try because they know he won't bench them for their lack of effort.

Just meshing talent they have will make them a top 10 D. Mike may not boost it but he also won't hurt it like some ignorant people are claiming.

Lakerstans saying Dwight will provide interior defense. Chandler was just as good of a defensive monster, why isn't D'Antoni coaching the Knicks and leading them to victory right now and last year?
Those delicious Laker tears, I can taste them.

It's a shame LA got rid of Bynum, his three point shooting would have been a great fit for D'Antoni system.

we were playing ok defense with dantoni in his last season the problem was the lack of an offensive system

Which was due to your players egos and allergies to sharing the ball, not Mike. Now that Knicks got their asses beaten up enough the players finally learned the lesson.

Re: Mike D'Antoni signs a four-year deal with the Lakers
Los Angeles Lakers
On November 12, 2012, it was reported that D'Antoni accepted a 4-year contract to coach the Los Angeles Lakers. [10] He has a chance to be the only coach in NBA history to completely ruin 3 different NBA franchises in 1 decade.
Gotta love Wiki edits sometimes.
Don't take it seriously Lakers fans.

Only because of Woodson. When he was a defensive assistant they were around top10 or top15 in defense. When Woodson took over as a coach they improved so much on defense that they somehow ended up in the top5 defensive team in the league.
D'Antoni doesn't coach defense. All the credit for the Knicks improved defense goes to Woodson,Tyson and Shumpert.

Of course Lakerse have a better roster but D'Antoni won't know what to do with it just like he didn't know what to do with Carmelo,Amare and Tyson.
Knicks were a sub .500 team under D'Antoni,he'll lead the Lakers over .500 but forget about the championship.
Lakers won't win a championship under D'Antoni. I can guarantee you that.
