Re: Marcus Camby Traded To Clippers
This was a necessary deal financially for the Nuggets and competitively
and psychologically for the Clipper ownership and front office.
Overall, the Clippers will be a better team this year than last year
due to the Baron Davis signing and having a real star PG vs last
year's scrub starter in Brevin Knight.
Camby's offensive is limited so he is a consolation prize for
losing EB. I was very bullish if the Clips retained EB. Now
realistically Clip fans are looking at a 2nd tier playoff team..
anywhere from 6th to 8th seed.
The trading for Camby was a good move for the Clips for
the following reasons:
1. The Camby trade buys two years for the Clips of playoff
contention and big cap space in 2010 vs destroying salary
flexibility by trading for Zach Randolph. Plus, they avoid
a bidding war and uncertainty in signing Oak or Josh Smith.
Camby's salary also gives the Clips the extra space to
add bench depth in adding a few players including resigning
Shaun Livingston to short term minimum contract and veteran
defensive stopper Q Ross to a contract.
2. Camby and Kaman give the Clips a very solid zone defense
inside. Add the stats and you have 25 boards and 5 blocks
a game..impressive. With either Cat or Q on the outside,
this team will be a top defensive team which plays to the
style that nearly put the Clips in the Western Conference finals
in 2005-6. Dunleavy is salivating over having his team
win low scoring games in which some opponents will be lucky
to score 70 points. The Clips now have solid veteran
leadership under the Red Baron and the Cambyman along
with Cat. This team is no nonsense other than Tim Thomas.
3. The Clips gave away only a second round pick and
a trade exception for the deal. The Clips keep Minny's
pick which could be big in the future. Potential future
trading pieces like Tim Thomas and Cat Mobley remain.
Bottomline: Good safe move by the Clips.

Wow, thank you for that deep analysys. It seems clippers somehow saved the day. So that proposal for zach was some kind of desperation move?

Re: Marcus Camby Traded To Clippers
If this reduces Kaman's playing time, the Clippers are committing suicide.

Re: Marcus Camby Traded To Clippers
Camby was the lone defender on that Denver squad. Now they let him go.

Re: Marcus Camby Traded To Clippers
I'm thinking the took the 2nd rd pick due to 2nd rd contracts not being guaranteed. Great business move for the Nuggets and great basketball move for the clips.

no wonder you chose that nick.. not funny... camby can play the four and he has played the four . he can hit 15-18 footers.. this is a very good deal for the clippers its like a gift because they got camby for nothing except his very decent contract...

Re: Marcus Camby Traded To Clippers
The more I think about this, the more I like if for the Clipps. Camby is capable to play the 4 bc he can hit midrange jumpers. They become one of the best defensive duos in the west. And really, its very low risk bc he only has a couple years on his deal. Its makes much more sense than going for a player who doesnt fill their needs. Last yr, camby led the league in blocks/rebounds. Regardless of what people think, he is going to help them defensively and wil compensate for Brands rebounds plus some.

Re: Marcus Camby Traded To Clippers
I don't see how this is a losing situation for the Clips. Camby only has two years left on his deal...they could've signed Josh Smith/Okafor to some monster five year deal, and still not make it to the Finals. They can give this a shot for a year, maybe it'll work well. If it's that bad, trade Camby's expiring contract. This is very low-risk for the Clippers, and I think it'll work out pretty well for them, assuming his health holds up.

Re: Marcus Camby Traded To Clippers
A lot still depends on durability with the Clips. Camby and Baron are still two of the most often injured players in the league.
