Default Shumpert only has star potential as a Point Gaurd with the Knicks

Shumpert can only become a knick great if they use him as a point gaurd.

If you don't want to use him at pg then you should want to trade him.

Shumpert is top 5 athlete at pg in the nba. Shumpert defensive ability vs 1's could be even more dominant than against 2's and 3's

How does a team try to match up with shumpert if the other two guys are Carmelo and jr smith along the perimeter?

If that's true then I'd say he doesn't really have star potential. I don't see him at point guard on a serious team. Unless that team has some kind of Larry Bird-type forward who can completely run an offense.

Shumpert isnt a pg, he's a defense first guard who may become a player with a reliable outside shot.

What's the obsession with wanting him to a point?

As talented and athletic Shump is the experiment went to the side because that would be such a long term project improving his handles and the mental aspect of playing PG. He didnt come into the league with an offensive game nor the handles. Right now he needs to focus on getting his offensive game respectable. He hasnt been healthy during the off-seasons either.

The window to try this is closed. If they wanted him to become a PG, they should have done it in his rookie year. Now, he's alredy started finding his niche in the league. He's patterned his game as a wing player. Let it go.

Although he played with Felton and prigioni shumpert clearly was at his his with the ball in his hands against the celtics.

I'm worried that many of you believe bringing the ball up the court is the job of an nba pg. or that it's true that shumpert doesn't have star potential.

This teams weakness is Felton and chandler being primary options on offense. 3 guys as good as Carmelo, Bargnani, and jr smith- add in shumpert and there's no way Felton/chandler should be such a priority

It's not THE job but it is A job. An important job.

Barring an off-season player development miracle Iman Shumpert is NOT a starting PG in the NBA.

So shumpert at PG or do you trade him. Does he have Ron Harper pg skills?

His size and athleticism defensively at the point will put a lot of pressure on opposing gaurds

El gringo's obsession aside, it might work if the team runs something akin to the triangle (a good bet, I'd say) this season. Derek Fisher never had to do shit but bring the ball up and shoot the occasional three.

The obsession is utterly ridiculous at this point. I dont care what offense is run Shump needs to be better than a Thabo Sefolosha. At this point thats all he is. The bottom line is he isnt a PG, SG, or SF his position is a Thabo.

What does that mean? Not capable offensively to play any of the 3 spots?
