    you seem to be equating organic with jamming, or a loose feel. WHat you are describing is part of the organic process as well. Music is a language and the subtle manipulations of the grammar and vocabulary of that language is what makes it so expressive. What phil spector or brian wilson did is an organic process. Like an excellent writer, a good songwriter is taking the ordinary everyday speaking of people and making it something more universal. If all music were composed by the same algorithmic program with no creative control, it would lose its appeal immediately. much like a program constructing sentences into a novel would not create a great expressive novel that touches on the essence of human being. human doing. human going.

    well ok, i understand what you mean and agree with this. but then what are you arguing? since, for example, phil spector obviously had his formulaic approach to making music just like any commercial music producer of today does, how can you rag on the popular "consumer product" music of today and not the same consumer product of yesteryear?
