What's so hard to understand that he is already American? He has to apply for an American citizenship if he's born in the U.S?

I didn't watch, but I heard Silva pretty much stood like that the whole time, wouldn't even look at Sonnen.
Can't wait!

Re: UFC 117 - August 7 (Silva vs. Sonnen)
Sonnen literally has a 2% chance in this fight, he doesn't pass guard, he doesn't generate much power from his GnP, he is eternally submittable as Maia proved and Nate nearly proved twice, his striking is sloppy and lacks power, he doesn't close the pocket all that well just wings punches and looks to grab.
He needs to take down and control Anderson for 25 minutes without getting tapped or caught on the way in. Last two guys to have ANY success with that were Lutter, who got tapped after seven minutes, and Hendo who took a shin to the throat and then got grapple****ed in the second when Anderson reversed a takedown attempt.
Sonnen is not a better grappler than either one. He's a fantastic wrestler with an iron chin but it just isn't enough and only his shit talking has anyone thinking otherwise.
Nelson will get KTFO unless he can hit a TD in the first and Santos's ground game is even worse than everyone thinks, otherwise it'll look like the Arlovski fight.
Fitch-Alves should be the most competitive fight, Alves is coming back from a looooong layoff but his dynamite striking will destroy Fitch if they stand for more than a few minutes. But Fitch is capable of GSPing Alves to a decision.

you know that FItch has stopped Alves before right? I think FItch might just do it again. Alves' gas tank is questionable.
I don't have a dog in the silva-sonnen fight but I'm looking forward to it. IMO Silva might gas, he did in the Maia fight, and sonnen can take a boring decision.

Alves missed weight yet again. I think this is the 3rd time. He should just move up to MW.

In their first fight Alves got KTFO when he leapt into Fitch's guard looking for some wild ground-and-pound and Fitch timed a beautiful upkick that turned the lights off. Fitch had top position and was battering Thiago for most of the first round but Alves had a lot of fight left in him, fight wasn't close to being over before the kick. Don't think Fitch is hitting a knockout shot off his back again.
and man, Alves missed weight again. Guy might be getting too big for 170, he's been on a lot of muscle mass as he's gotten older.

gotta love amateur fans like this. please start watching fights before commenting. alves would get thrased at middleweight, he isn't tall enough, doesn't have enough reach and muay thai is his thang

Re: UFC 117 - August 7 (Silva vs. Sonnen)
He obviously wouldn't be as good going up a weight class, especially since he excels at WW because he's basically the only elite striker, but he's missed weight twice in his last four fights and got caught using diuretics.
doesn't matter how good he would be, if this happens again he needs to move the **** up.
Plus he cuts from 210 a week out so it's not like he'd be a dwarf.

The thing is, if you cant make 170, you cant fight there no matter how much better you are at that weight. I know this is an ad absurdam argument but Brock lesnar would destroy everyone at 170 but that doesnt mean he can fight there.

How in the hell am I an amateur fan? I'm a huge MMA fan, dickcheese. Why don't you get a clue before you make a stupidass post? If you can't make the weight class, then don't fight there. If you fail to make weight multiple times, then there's an issue. Not to mention that missing weight seems to be one of Dana White's biggest annoyances. The fight was announced as the winner gets a title shot and Alves missed weight. You think Dana is happy?
If you're talented enough, then height and reach won't make that much of a difference. Not tall enough and not enough reach for MW?
Paul Harris is 5'8" with a 71 in. reach.
Manhoef is 5'8" with a 75 in. reach. Fought at MW, LHW and even KO'd Mark Hunt.
Filho is 5'7" with a 70 in. reach. One of the top MWs in the world when he's not batshit insane. He's also fought at LHW.
Sakara is 6'1" with a 72 in. reach. Beat James Irvin, who usually fights at 205 (he starved himself and looked like Christian Bale in The Machinist to make MW) in his last fight.
Akiyama is 5'10" with a 75 in. reach.
Wandy is 5'11" with a 74 in. reach. One of the best LHWs ever. Had a 5-year run where his only loss was to Mark Hunt, who was well above Wandy's weight.
Leben is 5'11" with a 70.5 in. reach.
Lawler is 5'11" with a 74 in. reach.
Okami is 6'2", but only has a 72 in. reach.
Hendo is 5'11" with a 74 in. reach. Fought at MW, LHW and fought some HWs.
Maia is 6' with a 72 in. reach.
Belfort is 6' with a 74 in. reach. Fought at MW, LHW and fought some HWs.
Marquardt is 6'1" with a 74 in. reach.
Shields is 5'11" with a 72 in. reach. Won his last 3 fight which were above 170.
Sonnen is 6'1" with a 74 in. reach. Fighting for the belt...
Oh yeah, Fedor is only 6 ft with just a 74 in. reach. The greatest MMA fighter can be highly successful at HW while being only 3 inches taller than Alves with just a 4.5 in reach advantage over him, but Alves couldn't possibly fight at MW?
