Ray Allen exercises option to play for Celtics in 2011-12
As expected, he used his player option to keep playing for Boston next season

I think its a bad move. I was hoping he'd opt out.
If Boston is serious about rebuilding next season they are going to use him as trade bait at any point during the season. Nothing worse than knowing you will have to potentially uproot your family at any point during the year. That could mean spending at least 1/2 of the season on a bad team in a small market where people would forget about him. Reaching a buyout to join a contender would mean forfeiting some of this money and ending up on a contender relegated to a bench player.
If Allen opted out he can get a 2-3 year contract for the MLE, and decide which team he wants to join based on playing time/role.

You just wanted him on your team.
There's no need to trade him because his and KG's contracts will expire and they can resign cheaper in the new CBA, leaving money to pick up FAs.
Ray won't leave Boston.

Nice, but......Allen and KG are likely trade bait with their big expiring contracts.
Ainge was around for the late 80's when the C's got old, and the brass hung on to rather than trade the big names. Had they made trades they would have stayed young and relevant. The same mistake wont happen twice...it wouldn't be consistent with how Danny and Wyc operate.

Ainge is absolutely going to trade him at some point next season.

This, idk why boston would trade him when he had a career yr shooting the ball. Him and pierce are aging magnificently and the big 3 just need to have their minutes lowered. and honestly idk who boston would trade ray allen for that could fill that void he has. He may be relegated to a 3 point specialist at this point of his career but hes shown he can still put it on the floor and take it to the rack. What three point specialist can do that in todays game? You have great 3 point shooters like korver or matt bonner but shoot 3's are all they can do and they have pretty much no ability to take it to the rack.

Yes, I do want him on the Knicks.
Why would the Celtics not trade them? Allen & KG are both valuable expirers who can provide some assets to the Celtics in terms of talent as well as draft picks.
I dont see any reason as to why they'd come back if the Celtics arent willing to go after it for 1 more season. I see both guys getting traded during the season actually. They would be hogging minutes from their future core if they decided to spend the rest of their careers in Boston transitioning from core stars to bench players.

Great move for Shttlesworth. With the unknown with the new CBA, plus a 10million dollar deal, opting out and hoping to get 5 mil over 3 years is pretty silly. And his family is settled in, he's a family man so that is really important to him.
Dude is a perfect sg for how they play, unless they can get a guy like Rip, Kevin Martin or Ben Gordon I dont see a replacement that would allow them to continue to play that fast pace AND a slow down half court game.
Say what you want about his age, dude is still good. Ainge might move him though, but I doubt someone moves value for him considering his age unless its a salary dump (see Ben Gordon or Rip) in which case both teams should jump on it.

Why do you keep a guy who wants to win titles when you're talking about rebuilding?
Lowering their minutes doesnt really keep them in the title picture.
Their core is getting up in age and you need impact players going forward, espescially when your competition is now Miami, Chicago, & New York.

Ainge clearly stated he wants to give the core one more shot... let them get their last crack at it and then when ray and kg run out of their contracts next yr you can decide what to do then, although I have a feeling after next yr k.g will retire

They are better off trying to go for it one more year. Honestly, I dont see what kind of real value they will get for those expiring contracts. They are great players who are also impact players even at this stage, but I just dont see them getting a lot of great value in return. I think they are better off trying to go for it one more time. Jeff Green really looked out of sync when he arrived, perhaps he will continue to grow and become more accustomed in the system.

Hey, Rowe, he's not going to play for the Knicks so stop trying to convince Boston fans that It's time to rebuild.
