Charlotte wasn't a championship franchise like the Lakers.
Why wouldn't he just have gone to the Nets or Hornets, the two teams that were originally going to draft him?
It was a selfish move, by an arrogant rookie.
Your dumbass is making it seem as if Kobe went to a championship caliber team and that the team was already established with big stars. at first you made it seem like Shaq was already there putting in work months before.
Nick Van Exel?
Eddie Jones?
really?
yes please yourself.

Either way it came down to Kobe putting it out there to lottery teams he had no interest in playing for them while the Lakers tried to swing deals.
I would say he bluffed on that one. Kobe loves basketball; can you really see him sitting out the season because he's not happy with the city he was drafted to? Then again, Kobe is also extremely stubborn...

Re: Players that have more rings than Lebron
@ Van Exel and Jones being mentioned as all-stars. Neither guy was much of an impact player. Jones was a solid veteran who could shoot and play solid defense. Van Exel was a streaky shooter who would've excelled off the bench (think Jason Terry or Jamal Crawford).

I'm saying the real reason Kobe was in such a great position to win early was because he forced his way to a team that was already really talented, and happened to already have a top five player. Of course he developed over the coure of 3 seasons, and won it in his 4th. The year Shaq won MVP, and the only year he truly went HAM. Kobe was a sidekick that year, then the next year Kobe raised his game to another level.
I'm just saying. Wade won it in his 3rd year. Why did Wade win it in his 3rd year, bro?
Answer the question ... because its the same reason Kobe was able to win so quickly.
lol at this shit. You're really saying, that a 17 year old kid, punked every gm, coach, player and the commissioner and the entire NBA by picking which team he wanted to be on?
Really? Thats what you're saying?

They forced the Lakers to draft Kobe. Or else, people were going to die and the league as it was back then, would never recover from a 17 year old son of a former scrub not getting drafted.

Re: Players that have more rings than Lebron
Obviously I have no idea what Kobe would have done had he been drafted by Charlotte and not traded, but I can only assume he would have shut up and played basketball. This is a man who has spent 15 (going on 16) years in the NBA dedicating his mind and body to becoming an elite player. He's put in countless hours in the gym... hell, he went to Germany and bought a ridiculous machine that's supposed to help with arthritis and other body ailments. The dude genuinely loves basketball. Kobe has ALWAYS pushed the limit; he's always tried to get away with more than he should. He took a gamble, told teams to stay away, and it worked, period.

Oh c'mon. Be real about it. Everyone knows that if Joe and Mama didn't stick up Jerry West, Kobe would have been playing soccer in Europe for the past 15 years.

No, Kobe forced his way to LA. Kobe made Charlotte draft him, then trade him to LA. Kobe forced LA to make Charlotte draft him and then ship him to LA.
Thats how much power a 17 year old son of a former NBA scrub had in 1996.
