Default 2012 NBA's Best Midrange Scorers

    First Week of Jan

    NAME 10-15 Feet 16-23 Feet

    Kobe Bryant 52.9% 50%
    Dirk Nowitzki 40.4% 64%
    Kevin Durant 44.0% 53%
    Lebron James 41.7% 42%
    Carmelo Anthony 31.3% 45%
    Dwyane Wade 37.5% 35%
    Derrick Rose 27.3% 35%

    Second Week of Jan

    NAME 10-15 Feet 16-23 Feet

    Kobe Bryant 48.2% 51%
    Dirk Nowitzki 43.6% 60%
    Kevin Durant 43.6% 50%
    Lebron James 38.5% 42%
    Dwyane Wade 44% 32%
    Carmelo Anthony 30% 38%
    Derrick Rose 26.7% 41%

(The list are in order from best to least)

Things to note: Lebron's midrange have actually regressed from last season. though his percentage close to the rim have shot up from 44% to 77%. He has definately improved his post game. unfortunately his shooting has taken a hit.

Meanwhile Kobe is having his best midrange shooting season (from 16-23)since 2007 at 50%. For comparison, he shot 38% there last season. Looks like his new shooting form which he changed to last week is working for him. I hope he sticks with it. His fadeway jumpers are deadly at the moment.

Durant has showed great improvement aswell. From shooting 40% (from 16-23) to 53%.

Rose on the other hand has regressed for some who knows what reason. He better start working on his midrange and let loose on that 3pt trigger.

Wade is Wade. He's always beeen a bad Jump shooter, living off freethrows refs gift him with under sterns command.

Melo, overrated chucker, only good in the clutch.

and finally Dirk. Although he is having a bad season so far. He has shown major improvement on his fadeway, spiking up from 52% last season to 64%this season.

[Stick around, will be updating this through out the season]

    Obvious trolling and bias.

These players have different styles of play.

And? I will update it as the season goes. Don't get bent outta shape cause ur franchise player is living off of hype in the mid-range department.

He actually did worse last season (36.8% from 10-15 and 40% from 16-23).

    Go figure.

Actually surprised Rose's percentages are that low. I haven't watched every single minute this season, but outside of 2 games, he's been really solid.

Games I am talking about are the GS, and Saturday's ATL game.

Congratulations for discovering Hoopdata in 2012.

Every shot Melo takes from mid-range is a contested pull-up jumper.

Thats his style of play for better or for worse.

Oh and btw once again its been 8 games.

I actually knew about hoopsdata since 2010. And made acouple threads about it bck then. anyway.

Are you saying Dirk and Kobe do not tak contested jumpers? Because Kobe's jumper are probably the most consistently heavily contested jumper in the history of the NBA.

And its a fadeway, which adds another layer of difficulty to an already improbable jumpshot. Now guys like Lebron and Wade don't so I will give you that. But even then, you can't use that as an excuse.

Now the reason im saying this is because of the melo mid-range hype. And the hype that he's the best scorer which he isn't

You say its only 8 games (some teams have played 9 and 10), regardless melo is on par with his last season performance so I don't see a reason to be discontent.

These aren't Kobe's best numbers from there since 2007, they're also better than his 2006, 2005, and 2004 numbers. They're probably better than all of his numbers from 1997-2003 but I don't know of any data before 2004. What I do know for a fact is that his highest % since 2004 from midrange is ~43-44%.

Too small of a sample size to really care. Let's see what's going on 25-30 games in.

Wait until the season ends and Nash will have a better shooting percentage than all these people.

The numbers are fairly meaningless at this point of the season. At the end of January last year (46 games into the season), Lebron was shooting ~38% from 10-15 and 16-23 but finished the season at 45% from both ranges. Right now we're 8 games in. Kobe's not going to continue shooting 20% on threes, 50% from 16-23 or 27% from 3-9, those numbers will all normalize as will all the other ridiculous stats we're seeing.

Mid-range takes into account both 10-15 and 16-23.
Steve on the other hand is shooting 33% from 10-15. So he's definately not better than all those guys on top. He would only make it infront Lebron.

That never happens, because everything falls back into place as the season goes on, and your trolling spirit dies off
