Well that is slightly disappointing.

You guys needed E3 to confirm that "The Last Of Us" is going to be epic?
Ha, Naughty Dog always delivers the goods.
Them and Rockstar are cash-cows, I basically buy every game they make.

I thought it was amazing. Love the HUD display and the gun animation. But then again, I'm not exactly an unbiased critic lol.
I love the premise, but I'm still uncertain on the execution.

Slightly disappointed with the Last of Us gameplay.
Not sure, what I expected that let me down though.
I guess it's because after watching AC III and Watchdogs it was great but not as great.

Huh?
The Last Of Us looks epic for a survival based game.
The gameplay footage looked prettier then any game TO DATE.
What did Assassin Creed show? A beautiful trailer and subpar gameplay?
I seriously hate Halo, Gear of War and Assassin Creed.
Don't know why so many people are into those games; they're arguably 3 of the 5 most popular titles on modern consoles.
Eh, not my cup of tea I suppose.

Re: E3 coverage thread
I'm going to be pissed if there's no news on GTA V during E3. Been too damn long.
Anyone have any interest in the new DC fighter coming out called Injustice: Gods Amoung Us? It's being made by Netherrealm studios, which makes Mortal Kombat. That game is going to be insane, and I like the sound of that much better than MK Vs. DC once again, that was ****ing terrible. It's due out in early 2013, yet there will be demo's at E3 already. They're taking their time, learning from mistakes it seems.
Teaser "Trailer": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpFgSEOcHIc
It's going to be epic. All I'm going to need in the next year is Black Ops II, Injustice, and hopefully GTA V. I won't buy another game for a LONG time. lol.

Well, it's a business. Sell one good game. Appeal to the same fanbase with 2-3 more versions of that same game. From an artistic integrity standpoint, making games isn't like making films, where linear-driven plots/settings are emphasized over immersion. I mean, the plots in those games you mentioned were never even that great to begin with, so they succeeded in one area film couldn't ever: immersion.
It doesn't matter how unoriginal the new COD is in terms of mechanics or storyline, people will still buy it and the new mappacks because of the multi-player immersion.
It sucks for originality but that's business for you.
On the plus side, the existence of these franchise games does allow the developers to pass their game engines amongst each other. Games like Watch Dogs will likely be even more dynamic than Assassin's Creed (Ubisoft)/Last of Us appears as an even more dynamic version of Uncharted (Naughty Dog). Medal of Honor: Warfighter already looks smoother than Battlefield 3.
In fact, I posit that Blizzard will start failing sometime in the next 5-10 years since they've already stagnated as a company, using old ideas/gameplay mechanics in place of success that they actually enjoy as a result of nostalgic immersion (Starcraft, WoW, Diablo, COD all come to mind) rather than innovative immersion.
They're not capable of meshing their gaming engines together to create a new experience like EA, Ubisoft, RockStar, Naughty Dog, and Bethesda are doing. This is, afterall, why the Japanese gaming industry has recently fallen apart despite so much success in the 90's to early-mid 2000's.
If so, companies like Blizzard will fall apart in favor of developers who want to collaborate with each other using their game engines. In other words, the developers will start having more power over the game studios.
Imagine future games that blend styles/genres together: Fallout meets Battlefield 3 meets Mirror's Edge. Uncharted meets Assassin's Creed meets Mass Effect. COD meets GTA meets Heavy Rain.
This era in gaming history might be akin to the Golden Age of Hollywood where major studios and movie moguls ruled Hollywood using nostalgia/movie icons as factors of success before its inevitable decay in the 30's. If so, the upcoming 10-20 years promises to deliver the Casablanca's and Citizen Kane's of our time before becoming something else entirely. Traces of our generation will still exist but gaming will become more diverse and democratized, if that makes sense.
Or not. I might just be rambling because it's 3 AM and I have to write a meaningless essay for my college class.

Re: E3 coverage thread
Well, the last of us was disappointing to me also. Graphics wasnt that good (comparing to Watch dogs, or AC III,especially Watch dogs), I was really looking forward to buying PS3 for this, because Ive finished all uncharted games on my friends console and it was amazing, and this didnt look that great. I will probably invest that money on my pc, so I can rock Watch Dogs on max.
