Now overall at the moment, Kobe is probably a better player but at the same time Dirk is one of the easiest players to build around. Around Dirk you need a range of prototypical NBA players that the league churns out while around Kobe you need a couple rare assets.

2011 is recent and Dirk has proven to be more capable of leading his team to a title as evidenced the most recent meetings when he swept Kobe in the playoffs with an inferior supporting cast.

Kobe is still a top 5 player in the league in my eyes and the only fault I had seen with him last season was a 43%fg which can be attributed to a poor offensive gameplan, extreme minutes and of course bad shot-selection (which plagued Kobe his whole career). Had Kobe not have to carry such a heavy load this season at his AGE (plus years in the L), he would've had a much better season imo.

Dirk over Kobe? That's an atrocity of an idea. And I like Dirk.

Dirk is a fringe top 10 player who is more so in the 11-15 range anyway compared to a Top 7 (at the minimum) player in Kobe Bryant.

Even, Kobe vs. Wade (although done so many times in the past) would've been a better comparison.

AND PEOPLE ARE SERIOUSLY BRINGING UP 2011 PLAYOFFS? OP said current (assuming he means '12 season going into the '13 season). Kobe was easily better in 2012.

Honestly.. I like Rose as much as the next guy, but him being top 5 just kills their rankings considerably. I don't see a case for him at all.
