What Nick Young said about the logic of the fight is spot on. In fact, at least the prequels were trying to be different... not that I think they were better than this movie, but just went in the wrong direction about it.

The music and saber fight are amongst the highlights of them.

It was definitely written that way. Star Wars has never been known for it's consistency.

This movie was hot garbage. The four new characters have some potential at least, hopefully the next movies actually have a decent plot for them.

That's the thing about this movie. The new characters (except for Kylo Ren, he's lame af) all have potential but if the sequel ends up being an ESB reboot, then I'm out. The prequels at least had some cool new shit even if there was a lot of it was retarded. I'd prefer a risky failure over a safe, boring success tbh

This is why I can't stand it when dorks get all high and mighty about their f*cking film franchise about space ninjas. The original Star Wars was a complete ripoff of Kurosawa films, the Flash Gordon TV series and a bunch of other stuff Lucas liked.

No it wasn't a complete ripoff. Those things, as well as Dune, were direct influences, yes. All films and works of art are directly inspired by something that came before. Like all works of art, Star Wars took its influences and mixed them in a pot to create something completely new.

It is idiotic to say that Star Wars is a "complete ripoff" of Kurosawa films. Only someone who has never seen a Kurosawa film would say that.

Have you seen Flash Gordon? The editing style and frenetic pacing is similar to Star Wars but otherwise they aren't really the same either. You never had anything like the Yoda Dagobah scenes in Flash Gordon, let alone the climactic emotional lightsaber duels at the end of the original trilogy films.

a bunch of other stuff Lucas liked.
Guess what Derka? This is how all artists, musicians, writers and filmmakers work. They let stuff they like influence them, and then they create something out of it. No story on this planet can claim to be completely original. Everything has been inspired and influenced by things that came previously. You can say this about every single film ever made.

Yeah, you're right: for anyone well acquainted with sci-fi (which i'm not), the original Star Wars series probably seems rather trite and cliche ridden in itself; the later ones are just the same, but with all these weakness amplified.

The whole thing was a bit of a fad, and was always lacking in depth & substance tbh (while also being pretentious and preachy). But still, much better than this one.

Question is, when will they break the $3 billion mark ?

China hasn't even entered the scene yet.

Half a decade? They'll break it just off this movie alone between theatre, home video, and merchandising( clothing, games, toys, etc). George Lucas actually sold off the IP pretty cheap when you think about it.
