I guess you and I have different standards then. When a large section of the population lives in slums and crime is at a much higher level than the other cities mentioned here, I think that's a fair description. And weren't there riots throughout the summer? Doesn't sound like most of the people in Rio actually are in agreement that they have such a nice life there.

There werent "riots", there were protests. These protests were due to an unfair increase in bus fares, they were not caused by people thinking that they dont "have a nice life".
Virtually all major Latin American cities have crime and poverty, that doesnt mean they are all shitholes. If poverty and crime makes Rio a shithole, then Chicago is a shithole.
Yes, Rio does have its slums, but it also has the most expensive neighborhoods in all of South America. Rio is a beautiful city full of beautiful people.

Yeah... none of this is really selling me.
The fact that what many trustworthy news outlets call a riots are merely "mass-scale protests over municipal services" according to you isn't really selling me Rio as the best city to live in.
The fact that other cities in Latin America also have a huge part of the population living in slums and a huge crime problem doesn't seem very relevant either.
The point is that there are many cities in the world with no true poverty and a negligible crime rate. I'm sure Rio is great to live in if you are rich and you exclusively stay in the rich enclave part of town (just like any big city), but the above mentioned factors make it a far cry from the best in my estimation.

Even my hometown Portland OR has a few neighborhoods that I would not really want to walk through at night. Exactly which major cities have no poverty and a negligible crime rate? Aside from a few places in northern europe, I cant think of any.
