First there was Hal Greer, one of the best guards in the game. He was fast. "I must be fast," Greer said, "always, always quick. The day I slow down I'm finished." I like my list better. It didn't exclude the number 88 (Batum). It also clarifies more of the top players (for example, no need listing Pippen with Jabbar at #33 when Jabbar is clearly better).

For certain numbers it's blatantly obvious who was the best player and on some of the higher numbers only a few people ever wore the number.
