Default Better defender in his position - Tim Duncan or Kobe Bryant

Duncan never gets credit for his defense while Kobe has been stockpiling all NBA defensive honours so I think ISH will give the edge to Kobe on this comparison, I think it is crazy and I would give the nod to Duncan any day of the week but I would be in a minority. What do you guys all think?

You're not even capable of understanding.

Even the craziest Kobe-stans don't try to sound like Kobe has a case over Duncan defensively due to having more defensive team selections. Yet you tried.

Kobe has no case over Duncan for being the better defensive player and difference is between them is not a minority.

What? Tim Duncan is universally regarded as one of the best interior defenders of all time. He just never won the DPOY, which he might finally do this year at age 36.

I think everyone knows Duncan is the better defender, and that Kobe wins his defensive awards more out of reputation than actual ability. I think even the Kobtards will admit that.

They won't. He's not a great or elite defender at all. Never has been.

What if Timmy wins DPOY of the year at age 37 in a few weeks?

Kobe's never been a great defender. The advanced stats confirm this. In his prime, he was above average. In recent years, his defense has been a detriment to his team. Hell, Trevor Ariza just lit his ass up the other night.

Kobe is an OVERRATED defender IMO.

A.I. feasted on Kobe in 2001 NBA Finals. The only Job kobe was given as SHAQ took care of the whole OFFENSE.

Kobe is a GOOD defender NOT a GREAT ELITE DEFENDER like Peyton, Rodman, Jordan, Pippen.

Or even somewhere btw VERY GOOD to GREAT in btw catagory: Artest, Battier.

    reasons:

His transition is pretty below average. He doesnt attack the passing lanes.
He cannot play tough D for full 40 mins. He takes too many breaks to conserve energy to play offense.

Yeah Bean was a solid lock down defender during the threepeat years, he was definitely deserving of the all NBA selections. After Shaq left and the offensive burden fell more heavily on him, his defense suffered noticeably and he only played threepeat form D in spurts. He made a bunch of all NBA teams based on the reputation he built early and the occassional stretch where he played that sort of D. But the last 3 seasons, especially this year he's been downright terrible (except maybe that one game against Brandon Jennings ). Dude just leaves guys wide open to shoot jumpers, he gets beat on some routine cuts, gets shredded by the quicker guards, seems lost a lot too.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him make another all NBA team though, despite he and the Lakers as a whole being a joke defensively.

Tim Duncan much better defender especially recently.

Kobe was an elite defensive guard 98'-03 and in 08. He built his rep on something.. Haters acting like the rep came out of nowhere.

There's a reason why there's such an outcry from fans every time he receives another undeserved All-Defensive accolade. He doesn't deserve half of those selections.
