MSE should be fine, but if your that paranoid try out AVG. I've heard good and bad things though.

Get something like AVG or Avast and install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Avast is the best free one.

Un-select all the junk you don't need during installation though (software updater utility, grime-fighter, etc), and make sure to register or it will stop working in 30 days.

Seconded on MBAM as a supplemental scanner to run every so often. Buying the paid version OF MBAM for real-time protection is even worth it.

AVG is garbage. I can't even tell you how many viruses I've had to remove from machines that were running AVG. I guess they've improved slightly but Avast free is definitely better than AVG free, and if you're going to pay for one, bit-defender, NOD32, Kaspersky, Webroot, and several others are all superior to AVG paid.

Also, getting cracked antivirus software from a torrent site is probably not the best idea.

I prefer Avast over AVG but I have used both with success. You'll also want to have MalwareBytes.

I've been using MSE for about 4 years. Seems to do what it's expected to do...

MSE/ Windows defender is enough if you use it along with common sense

unless you can't tell obvious fake links with .exe files in them, you won't get a virus from downloading from known file sharing sites and even torrents
