because by all accounts the Clippers got scared and now are back in when CP3 reminded them he could easily leave. Now they are dotting the i's and crossing the t's, negotiating pick protection, signing Doc to a contract, calling Garnett one last time to make sure his emotional ass doesn't change his mind, etc. and by tomorrow it will either die or be announced.

lol @ Celtics holding the cards

Doc wants to coach for a championship team or broadcast.

KG is only playing for Doc. Period.

Who is going to take Pierce's behemoth contract if they opt not to buy him out?

Meanwhile, the Clippers still have plenty of assets to dangle to other interested teams and can sign Hollins or Shaw any time they want.

Chris isn't going to leave after the front office has made it clear they will go after whoever he wants to play with/for.

They aren't. They walked away yesterday and came crawling back. They either get Doc or lose Paul.

I highly doubt CP3 would threaten to leave. IF talks are even still resuming, it was to give the Celtics another chance. The main thing the Clippers want right now is Doc Rivers.

Which explains why the Clippers haven't hired either

Doc is their first pick obviously, but if things don't happen quick, they'll go to either of those two.

The trade has stayed very consistent on the Clippers side. We've completely denied getting rid of Bledsoe for the Celtics' proposed trade. The Celtics are the ones that need to make some changes for this Clippers-Celtics trade to happen. Once those changes come, the Clippers will re-adjust their proposals so that this will finally happen.

Personally, I don't think any of the Celtics will end up on the Clippers, including Doc.
Actually, it was the CLIPS who came back to Boston to reinvigorate the deal. Apparently CP3 urged them to do so. AND word right now is that the Clips are caving in to providing another 1st round pick.

Thus, I don't see where Clips hold all the cards.

DJ + two first rounders is a shitty deal. Don't do it Danny. Doc's gone regardless...don't cave and take pennies on the dollar.

Doc retires = KG retires = profit for the Celtics

    Clips want Rivers and KG.
Celts don't HAVE to let either of them go.
Rivers has made it clear that he still wants to coach. He ain't walking away from $7m per year. And even if he did, so what? And so what if KG retires?
That's big money off the books.

How is getting no assets and losing Garnett and Doc a profit?

    1. Obviously. But they want Chris Paul and want to build a good team around him without mortgaging their assets.

    2. That's going to go over well with the players. Taking orders from a guy that doesn't even want to be there and tried to bail in the summer will be good for morale lol

    3. Rivers wants to coach if a championship can be had. Those are his words. He's expressed interest in broadcasting too. Money isn't a big deal for him. So the Celtics are doing this because they are cheap? A Top 5 coach and good powerforward gone for.... the ability to not pay them. Yeah that would be smart.

Plenty of teams would take on Pierce's last year to clear space for 2014's free agency. Besides, Pierce has already said he'd sign a one day deal if he had to so he could retire a Celtic...meanwhile, he'll accept things if Danny gets the right deal for him.

If the Clips could sign Hollins or Shaw anytime they want to, why haven't they if we're assuming CP3 wants either of them? Because the truth is...he wants Doc. If he can't get Doc, he and Dwight are going to fid somewhere to play together and become the next super team.
