Stay strong and ignore 90% of the advice you got in this thread. Social interaction is fine but focus on your schoolwork. You don't need to have a plethora of friends or girlfriends, being cool or popular is not the most important thing and you will realize it as you grow up.

i'd say hierarchy has a lot of direct health benefits for those who excel at that system.

the main alternative that i know of is social grooming. if i'm nice to you and make you feel appreciated, you hopefully turn around and do the same thing back. we gain greater health benefit via that method than by playing the alpha game well.

anytime you have a system of friendly, peaceful folks, however, some baboon comes along sooner or later to hijack it via system A.


but IMO, coolness is worthless unless it is put to the test. if it fails, it was only just pretend-coolness. pretend-coolness can kiss my ass.

Yes benefits for those who excel but the opposite for those who don't. I watched that video on the Baboons and stress... it was quite interesting. With baboons though, although the stress effects their bodies over time, it's nothing more than an in the moment type thing really. Something happens, their stress response kicks in, and then it's over until the next response is needed (It mentions that same thing with Zebras). Humans can have entire days or weeks effected by stress. Jameer is stressing over his place in the social hierarchy. He doesn't like where he's at... and who can blame him? When you aren't at the top life doesn't seem as peachy. A baboon doesn't think about this sort of thing because it's not capable of it. Consciousness can be a bitch sometimes.

Embrace this period though OP. It is a natural part of your growth. The feelings can be difficult, but it really does toughen you up and make you a much stronger and wiser person. Continue to ask questions, read books, and think about stuff... eventually you will sift through everything and start finding what works for you.
