Re: Robbed MVPs?
1989 MVP is Magic and rightfully so: He led the Lakers to the #2 seed in the whole league. Jordan led the Bulls to the 6th seen in the East alone, with a worse record than in the previous season (and winning an MVP while having won only 50 games is tough by itself). Not to mention that he bumped his rebounding and passing averages with that triple-double streak, which was impressive, but didn't amount to a good team record. And it's not as if Magic didn't have an extraordinary statistical season as well (close to 23/8/13/2).

'98 Shaq comes in 2nd place. MJ did more with less ... @ 35 years old no less. MJ sodomized the Jazz that kicked the shit out of Shaq's '98 Lakers. Playoff confirmation that he wasn't the true MVP.

If you look at just the regular season (on which the MVP is based on), Shaq had better stats and Kobe was a bench player.

Re: Robbed MVPs?
I feel Scottie Pippen deserved the MVP in 94. As well as DPOY in 95.
I think the only thing holding him back was missing ten games. He was more important to the Bulls than Olajuwan to the Rockets.

Kobe was an all-star though. Shaq had a stacked roster. Van Excel, Eddie Jones, Elden Campbell, Kobe?
Pre-season predictions that season had them advancing to the Finals. Shaq's lazy ass as usual couldn't get it done with the tools he was given. He didn't deserve the MVP.
Shaq's rebound numbers aren't more impressive than MJ @ 35 with a phucked up wrist leading a Pippen less Bulls for over half a season with Jason Caffey, Scott Burrell, and Toni Kukoc as his best and most consistent supporting players ... winning another 60+ games.
C'mon dude.

Exactly. Kobe was #2 in the 6th man race that season.

to be fair though, we don't award extra points for age.

No, context matters. Mentioning MJ's age and the fact he still outperformed Shaq is just icing on his deserved '98 MVP cake. Shaq's a lazy bum. He's been motivated for a whopping 3 seasons in his entire career.

I personally don't care how old anyone is. Either you played the best that season or you didn't. Things like size, age, personality don't factor in IMO.

Forget 35 years old.
MJ was the best player in the 1998 season.

Once again you're bringing up the playoffs. Playoffs do NOT matter, when it comes to the MVP voting. I know you ride MJ, but you mention Burrell and Kukoc, but not the rebounding title winner Rodman?
The Lakers weren't "stacked"
EDIT: Nevermind. Totally forgot that Shaq was injured for about a quarter of the seasons. He would've won it otherwise.

So you don't think MJ deserved the '89, '90, '93, '97 OR '98 MVP?

I think Jordan probably deserved around 7 MVPs.

I'd go
89 - Jordan
90 - Jordan, Magic or Barkley
93 - Hakeem
97 - Jordan
98 - Shaq
