World's Finest
Re: Greatest Actor Ever?
If I listed my all-time favorites, it'd be:
Brad Pitt- awesome actor, awesome dude
Al Pacino- has some great performances even though he's been cashing it in last 10-15 years
Robert De Niro- see Al Pacino
Paul Newman- The Hustler, Butch Cassidy, Cool Hand Luke
Daniel Day-Lewis- There Will Be Blood alone puts him here
Tom Hanks- got the best combination of comedic and dramatic chops
Denzel Washington- one dimensional but plays that dimension so well
John Wayne- actually not that good of an actor but he's fvcking badass so who cares

John was great in Summer of Sam. But his work as Chi Chi in Beeban Kidron's seminal 1995 masterpiece 'To Wong Foo,Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar' was so touching, so magnificent, I curled up naked into the fetal position and cried while suckling on bottled Vietnamese breast milk for 2 weeks straight. I spent the next 7 years literally speechless, meditating on the proper single adjective to describe his performance. In a moment of pure Nirvana, it finally dawned upon me, the thespian Gods gave me only enough energy to utter one... perfect... word...

Haven't seen On The Waterfront yet but it's supposed to be one of the greatest performances ever. If you've seen it, would you agree with that?

Haven't seen that movie in many years, but I remember it and him being great. That was the performance that basically changed the landscape of film acting, from the more theatrical over-the-top performances to a more naturalistic approach. Launched generations of copycats from James Dean to Pacino/Deniro all the way to Russell Crowe (Back when he was Russ Le Roq )
Since then everyone has basically been doing their best Brando impersonation.
Even fat Deniro couldn't help himself

Brando carried On The Waterfront. His performance in that was outstanding. Without him that film would not have aged as well as it did. Its about the beginning of unions and how they attempt to form one in the docks.

My views are pretty close to this but add in Robert De Niro and maybe I'm good.
Also really enjoy Daniel Day Lewis, Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Stewart, Kelly and Cagney old school.

I really liked Karl Malden's performance too. Great film.
