Default Vice documentary on Afghanistan and current situation there

"This Is What Winning Looks Like" is a disturbing new documentary about the ineptitude, drug abuse, sexual misconduct, and corruption of the Afghan security forces as well as the reduced role of US Marines due to the troop withdrawal. In part one, we see just how chaotic and hopeless the situation is in Sangin, one of the most violent towns in Afghanistan.
As the U.S. troops are to pull out of Afghanistan, you can see how the local army is doing to prepare for the time they'll be left on their own. This documentary covers journalist Shane Smith's experience staying with marines as they are now advising for the local police and army on how to be prepared to face the Taliban. It's all sorts of ****ed-up, I might say...

Russians "lost" 10 year war in Afghanistan, now USA pretty much did the same. These tribal "people" are hopeless.

The locals are definitely in a hopeless situation, if that's what you're trying to say. Just too much chaos and corruption everywhere, and US pulling out will leave everything to burn. I don't really know what was the victory condition on both of these wars you are talking about, I cannot say they were about it, too...

This documentary focuses on the police/national army situation on the field, and talks about the everyday life of them. Worth a watch.

Been a fan of Vice since I saw their Traveler's Guide to North Korea piece a few years back. Their HBO series isn't bad but it needs to be an hour cos their guys and gals can get some good stuff together.

I've seen the documentary on Korean tree logging camps in Syberia... Where they send people to work and earn money for their country, while those people basically gets no pay. I felt it was a bit of a waste, because they didn't really got anything to show. But yeah...

Vice documentaries are the best, they touch on subjects that the mainstream media wouldn't dare to talk about.

As ****ed up as it sounds that's the least of their problems.

You saw how unprofessional and immature the local afghan police were? That one dude was riding his bike and honking the horn in circles ffs, the other dudes were drugged out of their minds.

You think that will be able to defend the country against some taliban extremists ?

I think pretty much everyone agrees that this is a hopeless situation. This country has no infrastructure. Worse, they don't even seem to know what infrastructure is.

It is the Wild West. Plain and simple.

Afghanistan is nothing but a big mess, there's nothing the US can do to change it either.

Extreme poverty, lack of education while being hi-jacked by religion is a horrible combination.

I remember reading a quote, I think from Charlie Wilson's War that the CIA guys used to say. And I think it was an Afghan joke. It was something like

Who is a Pashtun's favorite woman?
    A Tajik boy.

Kipling said this a hundred years ago.

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier.

Why don't we just bring all the Afghans over here to the US??

Wouldn't that be the right thing to do?
