John F. Kennedy on civil rights
What is your opinion on JFK and his role in the civil rights movement? Was he hesitant with regards to it? Was his role over stated?

LBJ doesn't pass shit wouldn't for JFK's death. JFK was starting to lose the Southern Dixiecrat base because of his social agenda.
LBJ was able to push through a great deal of JFK's social agenda because he sold it on "This is what Jack would have wanted".

What a joke of a president. JFK only nominated that hick because he needed the southern votes. One of the worst presidents in history.

Re: John F. Kennedy on civil rights
I like to think that JFK and LBJ worked as a tandem. JFK had a vision that supported civil rights but didn't have the support from others around him to make it happen. LBJ was able to push JFK's vision through those that were against civil rights and made it a reality.
To be honest though, it was a number of things. LBJ's success in passing civil rights had to somewhat do with more political experience and some of it also had to do with his support-base. After JFK's death, he was able to gather everyone that supported JFK and everyone that supported him along with some on the other side that were initially against civil rights to side with him in pushing civil rights.
LBJ also had a different approach to it - while JFK tried to convince people through charisma and eloquent speech, LBJ was a bit aggressive with sharper tongue. JFK's death also helped shift public opinion in support of JFK - extra public push for civil rights made it a bit easier for LBJ to convince congress/senate/etc to pass the bill.

It's hard to compare JFK to anyone because his time was cut short. We have no idea what he would have accomplished had he not been killed
