    I can understand why they made so many changes from the book. The book is essentially a kid's fairytale. Tolkien wrote the LOTR trilogy almost 30 years later after he had seriously developed the mythology. Jackson is trying to make The Hobbit more of a precursor than it was originally intended. I'm cool with that. People always complain that films adapted from books are forced to leave out so much in order to work in the time frame. These films are the opposite.

    I'm cool with the ending too. In white:
    [COLOR="White"]There is a pretty epic battle coming up. If they had included that in this film then the 3rd film would only consist of Bilbo's journey back to the Shire.[/COLOR]

    yup. the hobbit was a Children's book. I think they took some stuff from the Simmilarion and added it to the movies, right?

    No, only from the appendixes from the LOTR.

    They don't have rights to use anything else, be it Sillmarillion or Unfinished Tales for example.

    That's why for example Gandalf in the 1st movie does not remember the names of the last two wizards, because they were never used in the materials they can use.
