Good college starter
Why can't Joe Johnson become a superstar?
At 6'8", 240lbs he is one of the strongest and skilled wing players. Although not overly athletic he is crafty and:
- Has one of the best handles in the league for a wing player:

- Is a very good defender (and no, not just based on this one video clip):

- Has a wet jumper as evident by his 10 three's the other day

- Great passer/playmaker
- And of course, arguably the most clutch player in the league:

Seems like he has all the skills to be one, yet he has never been able to elevate his play to become one.

Age is definitely a factor and during his peak he was often inconsistent .

He's good but he's not good enough to be a superstar. If it was that easy players like PG would be one right now.

Re: Why can't Joe Johnson become a superstar?
As a hawks fan that watched him for years I will say this.
1. He doesnt have the mentality. His personality is too laid back and is quiet. He plays with no aggressiveness or passion. He tends to disappear and float in games too often.
2. He has never took full advantage of his physical talent. Hes soft and doesnt like contact. He settles for too many jumpers and doesnt like driving to the rim. When he does drive to the rim he settles for low percentage floaters instead of going strong and drawing fouls. He plays like hes 5,10.

No Heart and Low BB IQ, as I said.

College superstar
Re: Why can't Joe Johnson become a superstar?
That inner drive to become a superstar. Joe is cool with being in that middle range of players who are cool with just being on the court.

I would take him over Harden(manufactured superstar)

Re: Why can't Joe Johnson become a superstar?
he's clutch it mean he can take over the game when he focus
if you play ball, you must have experience there's a time when everything seems like a slow motion and you cant miss,
the problem is he only show that like 5 minutes every game, while other great do it almost full game

Very good NBA starter
Re: Why can't Joe Johnson become a superstar?
Probably didn't have to biggest desire to win. Granted he is clutch as hell. His team was also not very well built to win. He was a borderline superstar tho.
