Countries with players over 6'7'' in there group:
Puerto Rico - 6, Average Height 6'6''
Argentina - 8, Average Height 6'6''
Croatia - 8, Average Height 6'8''
Greece - 6, Average Height 6'8''
Senegal - 5, Average Height 6'5.5''

Ive played with many pinoy guys before. They are short but they are athletic, strong and fast. They make up their lack of height with their hustle. They have very quick hands and are good at stealing, and disrupt offenses with their fastbreaks. They also tend more to rely on outside shot (especially against those taller teams like Iran where the Philippines played 4 players outside the 3 point line)
They are also very passionate about bball its their national sport, if you have spare time you can watch this docu by nat geo on pinoy hoops:

As for surprising people, it will be tough as their group is a pretty strong one. They probably can beat Senegal (Though not a given as Senegal are still athletic and tall team). The rest of the teams I don't see beating but you'll never know in basketball especially in tournament matches. They might squeak in another upset.

They'll be heavy underdogs against Senegal. Most of Senegal's players play at a much higher level than the PBA and they're tough defensively. Gorgui Dieng will probably play for them this summer too which just adds to their length and shot blocking.
Puerto Rico, Greece, Croatia, and Argentina will almost definitely come out of the group.

The main problem with PR is that a team with length down low can beat them if their outside shot isnt falling.

True, they have a 7'1 center Greg Slaughter who would definitely boost their height depth but he rejected playing in Spain citing the reason that he did not play in FIBA Asia and thought that the spot should go to the original players who worked for it.
Again, getting Mcgee or Blatche would be a large IMPROVEMENT to their team, with much needed height at that spot..

@Bandito - our strength is heart .. why? because even though as tgan mention we may lack height but he make up for it anyway we can.

Tenorio is underachieving this season. He's no longer a top 3 pg in the PBA Chot Reyes like Lee's game.

Hey Lebron23, just wondering why isn't Justin Melton in the smart gilas team? Is it because he's a rookie? He looks like a player and of course has crazy hops, he can come off the bench, he'll probably give fits to anyone guarding him.

As of now. Spain tries every year to change the rule. They petition FIBA every year with extremely hard legal cases. They are doing it again this year.
And USA always supports the idea also.
So it is never out of the question it might change to 2 players, because those 2 want it to be 2 players. Just like it used to be when USA first implemented that rule and had it for so many years.
Even though most countries I think hate even allowing even 1.
