This is how the playoffs SHOULD look
Any team that misses out in THEIR conference, but would make the OTHER conference, gets shifted to that conference.
Basically, if 9,10,11 in West have better record than 6,7,8 in East, then they go into the East and play in their conference.
This maintains the rivalries between East vs West because you're only shifting at the bottom.
2014 playoffs after shift (using current standings)
WEST
San Antonio Spurs
Oklahoma City Thunder
Los Angeles Clippers
Houston Rockets
Portland Trail Blazers
Golden State Warriors
Dallas Mavericks
Memphis Grizzlies
EAST
Miami Heat
Indiana Pacers
Phoenix Suns
Chicago Bulls
Toronto Raptors
Brooklyn Nets
Washington Wizards
Minnesota Timberwolves
_______________
Charlotte Bobcats (out)
New York Knicks( out)
Why this needs to happen:
1. The 16 teams with the best record should be in the playoffs every year.
2. You're condemning teams in the East to a cycle of mediocrity because they miss out on lottery picks which instead go to better teams in the West.

Re: This is how the playoffs SHOULD look
fake superstars like Jordan and Lebron would get exposed if they allowed Western teams in the East

Re: This is how the playoffs SHOULD look
you have a valid point, but i think this video from Coach Nick and BBallbreakdown clearly illustrates why such ideas wouldn't work in the NBA !

Re: This is how the playoffs SHOULD look
Suns and Timberwolves aren't going anywhere anyway so no point making things more complicated.

So it goes vice versa as well for the east and the West? Even though they won't happen anytime soon. I mean, I agree honestly. If that would ever happen might as well remove East and West and just throw all the best record season teams into a hat and scramble them.

DIVISIONAL TITLES MEAN NOTHING , SO CONFERENCE TITLES SHOULD MEAN NOTHING AS WELL
tHROW ALL THE TOP TEAMS INTO A PLAYOFF POOL , WITH WORST TO BEST PLAYOFF SCENARIO , SO ALL TEAMS PLAY FOR THE BEST RECORD IN THE LEAGUE , TO GET THE EASIEST RIDE THROW THE PLAYOFFS
bOTTOM DEWELLERS GET TO PLAY IN A PLAYOFF AS WELL:
wHO EVER WINS THEIR BEST OF THREE GAME SERIES , PLAYS FOR LOTTERY SPOTS

why fix something that is not broken. this happens in other sports. this year in the nfl the afc had teams with better record then the nfc.

Because it is broken, the play 82 goddamn games to determine who the best teams are only to tell people it doesn't really matter.

team A has 0.587 record while playing in tougher division and misses the playoffs
team B has 0.434 record and makes the playoffs..how the **** is this system NOT broken?
Nfl comparisons dont make any sesnse since we're comparing an 82 games regular season to a 16 one.

team b should win more games and not complain about team a that makes it to playoffs in another conference

Wait, so the 8th seeded Grizzlies have to go against the Spurs, while the 9th seeded Suns get to have HCA against Brooklyn? Sounds fair
