Oddly enough, the largest mosh pit I ever saw was started by Papa Roach, and I have probably seen 200ish hard rock/metal bands.

For me, the best male vocalist would have to be Helloween's front man during the 80's/90's: Michael Kiske.

For female... Probably Tarja Turunen from early Nightwish.

I don't know about female vocalists, but Russell Allen in Symphony X is actually my favorite in all of metal.

Not a fan of female vocalists. Probably the only female singer I can put up with is Skin.

As for males, Dio is the be all end all for me. As far as living vocalists are concerned, it's hard to argue against guys like Dickinson, Halford (even though I personally think Halford is done), Blitz, Anselmo, etc. I still Matt Barlow is a badass.

I think Anselmo is pretty much done too. All of that screaming took its toll. But yeah, peak Anselmo was one of the best.
