As a casual fan of hip-hop, I don't really have enough depth or knowledge to list a Top 5/10, so my opinion would be more based on cultural impact of how the artist did during his prime/peak. I can only give Jay-Z for his longevity, can't think of any year or any era he dominated.

Off my head....Enter The 36 Chamber, The Infamous Mobb Deep, Illmatic, It Was Written, are my fav four...a couple of those are def in most people Top 10/25 list.

I'm actually not a fan of Em but I respect his game and how great his 1999-03 period was. Besides the NYC '93-'96 era, I like the Beasties, Tribe Called Quest, Deltron/Del the Homosapien, Handsome Boy Modeling School type of hip-hop. Alternative hip-hop, I guess...and those groups/artists don't talk about the hood much, not serious about it, they just rap about general shit.

He is great, but dude has gotten LAZY since BP3.... the last great Jay verse to me was probably Murder to Excellence and Primetime off Watch the Throne.

I'm not going to lie though, there are songs on BP3 that make me cry because I would kill to be that good at putting words together.

Already Home, that verse one Thank you... he's amazing but he's shit out some lazy ass verses lately and there is no justification for the shit he's putting out recently.

Meanwhile Nas is schooling all of the young cats on every single feature he's done since like 08.

He has been killing it the last few years though. One of the most reliable features ever really. Looking at shit like the Carter interlude/outro....Let Nas Down...hes coming up on the likes of Big Pun far as someone who hops on your track and kills it.
