why do people totally take away kobes entire career of defensive skills because of 1 or 2 iffy selections

if hes in his prime and mobile, winning titles and locking guys down. then i dont see why he shouldnt be given credit.. especially on a team like the lakers who didnt have anyone else nearly as accomplished defensively

artest won a defensive player of the year. but by 2010 he wasnt even making 2nd team awards and had slowed down a ton.
