Re: The Draft Prospects Thread.
Man, you guys really underrated Acie Law. Hes #1 WITHOUT A DOUBT. He got All-first team honors and was the best clutch performer in the nation. The only time he wasnt clutch was against memphis with the missed layup. He was clutch in every other game. He was clutch in lousiville game so dont give me the "not clutch in the tournament when it really counts" bs.
He is a decent defender. Guards drove inside all day in the lousville game but besides from that he isnt that bad.
Assists are up there and can play at a slow or quick pace which suits any style of play.

Hes not underrated at all. Yes he was the best pg this year in college but that doesnt really mean a whole lot in the NBA.
Hes a combo guard with not much explosiveness. He cant finish hard, and hasnt really shown he can make his teammates better. Not a very good defender and passer either. At best I see him as a decent backuppg/sg,
Lawson/Collison/Conley will all be better point guards imo.

You bring up a good point. Maybe a little better development and he can be a good SG. I could see him as an iverson but not nearly as good as him. Hes a little too tall to be a PG but plays like one in college.

Yah I agree...He still can devleop to the point he can be a great 6th man and spot starter. I dont know who I would compare him with.
Anyways, did you hear Billy G might leave A&M for Arkansas?? Whats the word in Texas??

Re: The Draft Prospects Thread.
I think Law is the top prospect in this years draft unless Conley leaves. I think he is on the lottery bubble, and could go like 10th or 11th if a team needs a point bad. He is the type of guy that doesn't do anything amazing, but does a lot of things well. If Conley leaves though, I think he takes over as the top PG prospect and perhaps goes 10th or 11th if a team needs him.
Outside of that, this is a weak PG class. Brooks should get drafted, but I don't think he will be a star. I don't think Pruitt will be anything special. I wouldn't take him in the first round this year if he leaves. I like Shakur, although he hasn't done enough to warrant a 1st round pick. There really isn't anyone else I would even consider being worth an early 2nd round pick. I think Bobby Brown will probably be taken just because he is a PG.
There are a few other guys I like that may need to become more PG like in the NBA to survive. I think Zabian Dowdell could make the league as a combo guard. Same with JR Renyolds, Jarrius Jackson, and Derek Raivio. I don't excpet any to be more than journeymen though. I do think all are just about as good as a point as Tatum and Gordon doesn't have the shot to be a backup in the NBA I don't think.
The only way this is even a decent PG class is if Conley, Lawson, Crittenton, Augustin, and/or Collison enter the draft. As a college basketball fan, I hope none of them do. I also think that if they enter, Taurean Green, Singletary, Tyrese Rice, and/or James could at least make the class seem somewhat respectable. Again though, I hope none leave early.
I do think a few players are getting way underrated at other positions though. Fazekas is a solid prospect, despite his tournament problems. Rush and Afflalo are also better prospects than I think people make them out to be. I would draft both in the teens if they leave. Some people also have Dudley towards the end of the 2nd round. This guy will be a solid 10 and 4 guy off the bench for somebody. To me, that is worth more than some late pick.
I think the number of overrated players outweighs the underrated players though. I don't think Jeff Green is as great as people make him out to be. Solid, but I honestly don't know if he will do much more than the 10 and 4 I predicted for Dudley. Also, just because he played one good game, I don't think Hibbert is a top 10 pick. I have fought for him to go higher than the 20's, but now he is just being overrated by 5 to 10 picks. Same thing with Derrick Byars. Nice player, but a good tournament and good season doesn't mean he will be that great in the pros. I would knock him down about 10 to 15 picks to the end the 1st round. And why is it that a guy like Jason Smith is being taken so much higher than Fazekas on nbadraft.net? What does Smith do so much better?
And please don't anyone think I am hating on these guys. You can look in the college/draft forums, and I have supported Hibbert as much as anyone. I also have like Byars and felt he should be looked at early in the 2nd round a while ago. After seeing him in the tournament I would draft him in the last 5 or so picks in the 1st round.
And on another point, I think this is looking like a pretty deep draft overall, with a lot of nice prospects looking to go in the 2nd round. I like DJ Stawberry, Jermareo Davidson, Herbert Hill, Kyle Visser, Dudley, Martin Zeno, Trey Johnson, Reyshawn Terry, Stephane Lasme, Carl Landry, Curtis Sumpter, Sean Marshall, Mario Boggan, Cartier Martin, Caleb Green, Warren Carter, Craig Bradshaw, and Mustafa Shakur as well, and think all of them should play multiple seasons in the NBA sooner or later. A couple other guys that won't get drafted that I like a lot (as a relative term) as well are Lamont Hamilton from St. John's and Quinton Hosley from Fresno State.
And the last two guys that I think could be steals are both guys kicked off their teams this year in Josh Heytvelt and Sean Williams. Both are huge risks, but both could have huge returns. I really wouldn't be suprised to see Heytvelt playing 15 to 20 minutes a night and getting 8 points and 4 boards for a team like the Grizzlies. I think Williams could be good for 6 points, 4 boards, and over a couple blocks for Golden State or such a team. Another guy that may have fallen from even draft consideration is CJ Giles that got kicked off of Kansas. He is a big man with a lot of potential. Give him 5 years, and if he stays on the right path in his life, he will be in the NBA.

So, you're saying he's basically Jarvis Hayes?

HHHMM. i dont think that is right because A&M is having a meeting on what to add to his contract like a raise, extension and other nice things.

Yah I was just going by websider.com and there message board. It looks like he will stay and the rumor that he was willing to go to Arkansas was just put out there so he would get a bigger raise at A&M.

Re: The Draft Prospects Thread.
ya i think he DID get or IS getting a 1.2 million dollar raise.

What do you think of Hawes? I see he is at #5, but i stil hope he satys because im a huskie fan. Do you think he needs another year?
-
Re: The Draft Prospects Thread.
I really like Hawes. I want him to stay, I want him to do whatever he can to make sure he doesnt **** anything up.
After Oden and Durant of course, hes my favourite prospect.
-
Re: The Draft Prospects Thread.
Hawes has skillz, but if you can call Oden unimpressive this year, then what does that make him?
For a freshman he's quite the prospect though.

Rockets should get Alando Tucker or Aaron Gray if they're in the 20+ pick range
