why has the Tea Party not attempted a coup d'etat?
i've always wondered this. they have millions of members nationwide and as ardently conservative as they are it baffles me that there hasn't been a large scale coup attempted yet in Washington

Well in terms of physical safety it's a much safer bet to try to convince liberals to use reason and logic when it comes to policy making than to try and gather a bunch of random civilians together to try to take over the world's most powerful government. Although in terms of probability I would say the latter seems a bit more likely.

Because Obama took their guns away.

Re: why has the Tea Party not attempted a coup d'etat?
first, there probably had been miss fired shots between tea party members in its attempt to control washington which prevents the party to progress.
second, while military prowess had helped a few individuals to be seated as the president, including the founding fathers.
it hadn't necessarily been the majority

because strength and force are overwhelmingly against them and they would get put before a firing squad within a month?

Also they are close to taking over one of the two major political parties which is a quicker route to power.

yea but the instigators of a tea party coup wouldn't be those close to power in the gop. it would be grassroots and most likely very violent and even more likely very opposed to any collaboration with either of the two major political parties but perhaps especially the republicans.

what makes you think the tea party is old and complacent? hell even if on average it is an older movement, it is by no means complacent. it has had more of an effect on american politics as a grassroot movement certainly than anything in the past few decades. (EDIT: THIS SEEMED LIKE TOO BOLD A STATEMENT. DOES ANYBODY KNOW OF ANY OTHER GRASSROOTS MOVEMENTS OF THE PAST FEW DECADES THAT HAD MORE OF AN IMPACT ON AMERICAN POLITICS?) the tea party has been incredibly successful. maybe it's because it's well funded. maybe it's because the ideas resonate with people. it could be for any number of reasons. but certainly among the reasons it is successful is the fact that its members are NOT complacent, by any means and no matter how old they are.
