Guys like Malone got dirty within the flow of the game though. That elbow was on a legitimate contest, not something out of nowhere. (He did it on purpose though, no doubt.) I don't mind that.

Guys like Kobe and Wade do that bitchy retaliation stuff. i.e. Wade pulling Rondo down. To me that's dirtier than a Malone elbow.

With Malone you knew that could happen, with 'nicer guys' like Wade and Kobe if you block their shot or shut them down look out for something.

Laimbeer is the dirtiest though.

I do not recall that incident. Makes me feel a little old seeing how those types of things have changed in terms of how they're handled now. In that clip, Gary Miller almost lightly references Perry being knocked out, spends 5-10 seconds on the event as Perry walks off the court, then goes back to calling the rest of the game.

If that happened today? Perry immobilized on stretcher. 35 minutes of Sportscenter. Sidebar reads "Perry KO'd", "Malone Suspension", "Dirtiest Player of All-Time?", "Should Elbow Pads Be Required?", "Pistons vs. Kings", "Do High Socks Lead to Head Injury?"

Then First Take, PTI, and Around the Horn would all take their turns. David Stern would have to quadruple whatever suspension he originally put in place, while facing heat to step down from his position for not previously making Karl Malone stop pivoting on rebounds as a precaution. Karl Malone is genuinely a mean person on the court. I remember the year he signed with the Lakers. They had drafted Brian Cook in the first round and there was a scrimmage in camp. Karl Malone was beating the shit out of Cook. Elbowing him in the head and stuff. Nothing to do with ball just smacking the crap out of him on the floor

The look on Cook's face made me feel bad. And then a couple years later he starting shooting every time down the floor like he was Stojakovic and I wanted Karl back just to kick his ass
