which of these three fictional teams would be favorites to win a championship?
for the sake of simplicity, assume that the benches are above average in terms of scoring and defending.
Western Conference,Team A:
the strengths: the team is run by a very high-octane offense, lead by a 1st team All-NBA swingman and point guard, whose athletic capabilities are on par with MVP-level Derrick Rose. this team ranks 1st in offense.
the weakness: the team's overall defense is just average, including the superstar swingman and point guard. this team's defense ranks 15th.
Eastern Conference,Team B:
the strengths: All five of the starters are oversized monsters, to say the least. this team leads the league in overall rebounds, steals, blocks, and has the #1 defense in the league. on nights when the entire offense is clicking, the team is essentially a juggernaut.
the weakness: the team's overall offense is average, and can be contained by another strong defensive team. the offense ranks 15th in the league.
Eastern Conference, Team C:
the strengths: this team has the best record in the NBA and the MVP of the league, a 7 foot, 350 pound all-around juggernaut center who averages 37/18/12/4/4 on 60% shooting and 98% FTs. this center's right-hand man is a sniper small forward, who averages 20/8/2 and is the best 3-point shooter in the league. he has also been credited for playing good defense.
the weakness: the rest of the supporting cast is average. without the center and small forward, you'd expect a team like this to competing for a bottom-seed in the East.

C, average can be good at times.

C. Rarely does a team without a top 10 offense and top 10 defense with the title so that rules out the first 2.
Also, a team that would "compete for a bottom-seed in the East." without it's 2 best players (one of which seems to be the best player in the history of the sport) really isn't that bad. It's basically OKC, except their top 2 is even better than Westbrook and KD.
