Heart rate monitor watch, anyone use them while they exercise?
I just purchased this heart rate monitor watch on Amazon:
I want to start tracking my pulse while at rest and while working out. Does anyone here use one? How do you like them?
The one I ordered has a strap that goes around your chest and syncs with the watch, that seems to be how most of the pulse monitors work.

quick google search finds the apple watch at $349
I got the watch above for $50. I want a heart monitor/exercise tool not a smartphone watch

I've used them before and it is interesting, but beyond that I felt like I got nothing out of it and wearing that thing on your chest while exercising is annoying and it always slides down to my stomach.
I wear a Nike fuelband all day everyday and track my activity with that.
There are a few devices that track heart rate from the wrist instead of having to wear the chest-strap, they are a little spendy but much more convenient than wearing the chest-strap

The above watch, Polar FT4 is the top selling heart rate watch on Amazon. Most of the reviews say the chest strap is very comfy and stays in place. I will update this thread after I try it out.

Tested out my new heart rate monitor today. My lowest resting pulse was a 56, but I averaged between 60-65. Just putting socks on caused my pulse to raise to 75ish. While drinking coffee my pulse stayed in the 80-85 range. I did a short run/walk with Bryan and got my pulse up to 176. I'm looking forward to using this as an exercise/motivation tool.

I exercise a lot but I really do not know why I would want to know my heart rate assuming I'm healthy for my age. For example, is there really much of a difference if I am playing soccer and my heart rate was 140 as opposed to 150? What practical use is it to know that and make it worth spending hundreds of dollars?
