Default Shouldnt DPOY include playoff def. effort / be given after the playoffs?

If not, then why not have some reward or anything that honors the defensive effort of the playoffs.... which is even more important than reg. season.... and something which essentially all players dont turn on fully until the playoffs start...

There is no defensive award for the defensive effort in the playoffs afterall... There is for individual effort, more or less (FMVP) and there is for team effort (Championship)... but NOTHING for defense...

"Defensive Player of the YEAR"..... why not obide by that? If not, then at least change the name to what it really is, Defensive Player of the Season/Reg.Season....

I dont get it.... i just want that defensive effort to be rewarded/noted and wonder why it never has and by the looks of it probably never will be....

Good point but in the end its just a title, we all know lebron wouldve won it if it was a reg season + playoff award this season, in 2012, and 2013.

It'd be weird to have someone get a DPOY for their play from Jan to Dec, tho.

    The playoffs are different, anyway.

Sure! or better yet just literally going by the words "Coach of the YEAR", which means it includes the playoff effort.

You're arguing semantics. Why not argue that the word "year" is wrong because the award spanned over two different years? Or it's wrong because it's not 365 days which is what a year is? When they say "year" they mean regular season.

The reason playoff is not included in MVP, DPOY, COY and other regular season awards is simple, not many teams participates in the playoff. If you include playoff and announce it afterwards, then clearly on most years only the stars who make the finals will win it. That's only a very small percentage of players. Clearly COY would be won by whoever one wins the final there's no reason to even have the award or vote on it.

I dont care, if you are the true MVP, DPOY, COY that means it translates team success.... a playoff appearance is inevitable....

..and again, although it would be cool for MVP/COY to include playoff performance aswell i dont care as much for MVP or COY in the playoffs because there is FMVP & a Championship, im sure a Coach & Individual player would be fine with that equivalency more or less..... but there is nothing close to equivalent for DPOY/Defense in the Playoffs, NOTHING.... except for just simply being happy with winning a championship, if that happens....

You may have just played the most epic defense of the year, better than the guy who even won the DPOY.... where it absolutely matters.... up to 28 games.... and you get NOTHING....

If you want the equivalent of fmvp for defense that's fine.

If you want the regular season awards to include playoff that's when it gets retarded.

The regular season has to be rewarded. 82 games would seem pretty damn stupid otherwise.

Playoffs are about Ws and who leads the team to those Ws. Let's keep it simple and stick with FMVP and nothing else. You think Kawhi would have cared about a FDMVP (or whatever the **** it would be named) in 2013 when the Spurs lost?

Because it will inevitably lead to choosing someone on one of the winning teams, or at least finals teams. If you get swept in the first round, you likely won't get any consideration no matter how amazing your defense was throughout the year. Fact that there is a larger sample size, usually because they just flat out on a better team and thus go deeper into the playoffs, isn't really fair to the dudes getting knocked out in the first round or even not making the playoffs.
