So Mikan's accomplishments don't count....
Because he played in the pre-shot clock era, but Wilt/Russell's do even though they played in the pre-3 pt line, which heavily favored big men?
Can someone explain this to me?

I would it's the other way around.
Only Mikan's accomplishments count as he is the only great who played in The Pure Era

they count. but they dont compare to an 80's, 90's, 00s title
i give russell half credit for his rings
mikan maybe gets 1/3rd
mikans a top 20 player all time though... if he did what he did in the 90's he'd be a top 5 player ever

Titles are overrated
Re: So Mikan's accomplishments don't count....
Once you throw out literally half the history of the NBA there's no point in discussing who the all time greatest is.
If you're comfortable with removing all time considerations and simply considering whoever you feel the best to be the best you have seen or maybe the best lately or since some arbitrary point in time.....fine. All you will have accomplished is to take some of the luster off all those who are left.

If people want to put Mikan in the top 10 for what he accomplished and meant to the game, I'm fine with it.

It's far more objective to compare players within their era; Mikan was a great player relative to his competition.
We waste so much time trying to compare Shaquille O'Neal to George Mikan; or Julius Erving to Kobe Bryant or Larry Bird to LeBron James.
It's pretty subjective;
- The rules were different
- The competition was different
- The preparation, equipment and supplements was different

Then include the ABA in that comparison.
