You can measure speed. How fast someone moves is a fact*. It is what it is. It's indisputable. You can measure it and know for fact which is greater You can't measure basketball.

    * putting aside changes in how you measure the time

And the track surface. And the shoes. And the PEDs.

Usain is a freak of nature, though.

Jim Ryun set the high school mile record at 3:55.3 in 1965. It wasn't until 2001 that Alan Webb broke it. Nobody has since.

Here's the track Ryun set the HS record on:

Only 4 US high schoolers have run under four minutes in the mile since the 60s despite better shoes, track surfaces, and a larger population. Three runners went under four in the 60s.

Isn't there less than 1 seconds difference between them?

The difference between mine and Westbrook's vertical is only a few inches.

Now imagine if Wilt got that kind of training.

Lets face it, Wilt was so naturally gifted as an athlete, he would dominate the league today with just 1960's methods of training.

You are basically painting him in a good way.

I am a strong believer of 'Era-Specific' players but Wilt can play in any era like MJ or Kobe.

so you are saying. in 48 years

    from 3,280,979,467
    to 7,023,324,971

only 6 players ran faster than what was the record 48 years ago?

while I am certain, these number doesn't include mortality

I don't even want to say thanks to league expansion.

if you want to put your money where one of those personnel
would now all of a sudden prove Wilt to be a scrub

    be my guest.

    better overall field?
I am truly disappointed in human ability/imagination

next up, the first cat landed on the moon, but we still can't do sh*t with Mars

edit- I lost the argument, I forgot to include all of those who had broken the 1964 records along the way. so we are better off doing the calculation from what is the better overall field rate of .37 seconds in 100 meters, divided by 48 years worth of time.

I am so happy this is legitimately not an intellectual debate.
