Lakers executives have long defended their use of advanced statistics, disputing the public perception that the 16-time NBA champions are behind the times.
The organization, however, is taking steps to strengthen the analytics side of things, with plans to create a position for a staff member to facilitate better communication between the basketball staff and those crunching the numbers.

Hiring Vlade as the GM is one of the funniest basketball-related things I've seen.
They're in win-now mode and they're still gonna miss the Playoffs.

Analytics aren't very valuable for evaluating prospects.
Analytics are pretty valuable for evaluating players on other teams
Analytics are really valuable for evaluating your own team and line-up combinations

We've got our superstar already. We can't wait to develop draft picks. We either go all out this year... Or lose him. It's a simple choice.
Small market teams don't have it easy like the Spurs.

Anyone with a brain should know that you're supposed to use analytics AND the "eye test" to determine whether or not a guy can play. Using only one or the other is foolish.
