    Default Embarrassing Scripted political ad

It's all scripted! Now I want to see raw footage of all of the candidates to see the embarrassing moments for all of them. They are essentially manufacturing emotions, stories, etc in specific wording at certain angles w/ director, whole camera crew, etc. It's like they're recording a tv show. So much disingenuity. WTF has politics turned into??

By law, super PAC's aren't allowed to coordinate with the political campaigns that they support. The law has produced a number of absurdities in the campaign finance system, one of which is the campaign practice of quietly uploading raw footage of the candidate onto public sites like YouTube, so super PACs can legally use the material in their own ads. The hope, of course, is that no one will notice the videos. But CNN's Chris Moody did, stumbling on hours raw footage from a Ted Cruz campaign ad shoot.

Moody then did God's work, combing through take after painful take of Cruz and his family trying to get through the shoot with a tiny shred of dignity intact. In the video above, CNN has edited the footage down to the most cringeworthy, embarrassing moments, revealing "a rare peek behind the scenes of the strange world of political ad making."

This is actually pretty common. Put out a bunch of video, most of it being obviously unusable and a few usable bits. You can't directly communicate with PACs, but it's obvious which bits to use for ads.

    Who else has done this?

Because I sure that we would have a lot things like this if this was wide done before?

In Ted Cruz's defense everything that can be scripted in politics usually is. Particularly for a commercial. Any video project would have a ton of preproduction to think all this stuff out ahead of time. It's not a reality show, where they are going to shoot a month of footage. They want to get in and get their all the "scenes" shot. Also with regards to his family, it's not easy to be unselfconscious on camera, so it's not unusual they would be prompted.

It's weird they didn't edit out the director's voice. I wonder if they can't edit the footage or that would be considered illegal coordination with outside groups.

One of my favorite 'scripted' things in politics was a recent US Senator would drive to his campaign stops in a red pickup truck. Then he would drive down the road to another parking lot and get in his actual car, an expensive German sportscar and drive home in that.
