Seems the world just keeps spinning more and more out of control.. Rule of law has become a joke, people are becoming dumber and lazier, values and morality are all but absent. Well George Carlin had the right idea. He gave up on us and was happier for it. I think he may have been on to something!

I do think materialism is out of control in a lot of ways. And I'm a George Carlin fanatic, don't get me wrong.
But at the same time, people have got to eat. It's just part of the deal of being a biological organism. And unless you're doing laborious agriculture work, stealing food, or hunting food, the only way to eat is to provide someone else with a useful service.
You often hear people say, "we squandered our gifts as a species.. this wonderful mind, and the best we can come up with is cell phones." That's true to an extent, but isn't it such a logical outcome given the human need to eat to survive? What else are we gonna do? "Help" each other? Devote all of our resources to science and knowledge? That's noble, but where are we gonna get the money to do that? Who is going to provide us with the food to nourish us as we learn? Who's going to spend their precious time and resources to create the necessary technology? It's not going to fall out of the sky.
It's not like one day people just up and decided that corporations and jobs are something we should all be doing. It's that they're a natural progression in the human time line, stemming from our need to eat.
Does it go to far? Definitely. But no individual HAS to keep up with the pack. If you want, you can work part time and live a minimalist lifestyle, build your own house. You can do whatever you want, because we're a mostly free country.

I don't think a comedian like Carlin could become famous and successful anymore. There really is no counterculture anymore. Everything is very sanitized and "Americanized". No one discusses the stuff he did. Both hilarious and thought provoking. Of course, he could do the silly stuff too.....his range of topics were amazing.
In my mind, Carlin is easily the greatest stand up comedian of all time.
