Default My streak of never paying any interest/fees on a credit card almost came to an end.

It was a close one. The other day my wife signs onto her account and sees that she was assessed a $25 fee for missing a payment.

She never wanted any credit cards but I got her to get a few that were offering GREAT signup offers, so even though it's her card I still felt responsible.

I vowed to get the $25 BACK! I did not want my (our?) streak of never giving a single cent to a credit card company to end.

I went onto Citi's chat service requesting that the late fee be waived because it was my (her) first offense. They "checked" on this possibility but I was told (TWICE) that the fee would not be refunded and that I would have to CALL IN and speak to a support specialist.

I knew the call in would not work because they would want to speak to my wife and she refused to talk to anyone about it. SHE DOESN'T CARE!!

This is when my mind went to work and I went on the online chat the next day, this was my THIRD attempt to get the refund through the chat service. But this time I took a different approach: I claimed that I HAD ALREADY called a support specialist and was told that I would get the $25 refund. I was currently on chat to "check" on the status of my refund

Initially this claim was met with the customer service rep saying that my account showed that the request had been denied. I told them that this was the response to my initial request through the chat service but that it was approved over the phone.

They then told me to CALL IN AGAIN

I was getting angry now, I told them I had already called in and got the refund approved, so why would I call in again? I demanded to speak to a manager if she had no other information.

After a little back and forth I got sent to a manager. I relayed the info to her, she apologized for the fact that I had to check on my refund status. She ended it with saying she would escalate the claim and have the internal team investigate and come to a decision on the return. I thanked her and mentioned how I would really prefer to keep the account open but I would be closing it if the fee was not refunded (I mentioned this in all of my convos on chat but was still told I had to call in).

The next day my wife got a call letting her know that the $25 fee would be refunded. The streak lives on. No money will be given to a credit company.

    I WIN.

Sounds like you need to get a more financially sound wife.

Keep hustling the credit card companies.

OP is semi-entertaining at times. He's like a mediocre dog that you pat on the head.

And here you are writing a short story about it on the internet. If dodging a 25 dollar payment is a story worthy moment of your life I just feel bad.

I took about an hour overall over the course of 2 days. Not too bad.

It's the principle of the thing. I don't let people/companies nickel and dime me.

This probably wasn't worth a thread but with my past credit card posts on here it goes along with the theme/image I've portrayed.

So I felt it was worth posting to continue my ISH story.
