The power of the police union....
Remember the Parkland shooting and the cop who hid behind his car for over 10 minutes while children were being shot by
Nikolas Cruz, and remained there until the shooting ceased. He was one of the first, if not the first on scene, but didn't budge even when other cops started to rush into the building. Well obviously he was fired on the spot.
Well the guy just won his job back with back pay. He made over 138k the last full year he worked.

It has been long ruled by the Supreme Court that law enforcement officers do not have a duty to protect anyone unless a special relationship as been previously established.

Re: The power of the police union....
this is why i defend those men that shot arbery. if police won't protect you like in this situation, you have the right to chase down suspects and take matters into your own hands. the 2 situations are 100% comparable, but please don't quote me on that because i will pretend to never have compared the 2 situations.

What!?
I dont doubt your assertion, but that’s pretty astonishing to learn.
So what exactly is their duty then? What are we paying them for?
To write traffic tickets?

That’s not bad compared to that cop who shot the kid in the hotel that was crawling on the ground and had “you’re ****ed” on the dust cover of his rifle. That guy murdered someone and got a full retirement package.

Pretty much. We overpay them to not protect us and bust our balls over stupid shit.

Their duties are the same as what we expect of them but they are not legally liable if harm results from their failure to act.
In this case, you can't fire or sue the cop for not rushing into the school.

You might be right. I was reading about a Detroit cop who watched while a perp they brought into the jail attacked his female partner and he just called it in and watched her get beat up. Was fired, then got his job back. Then a few years later, stayed in his car eating lunch while a shooting that killed another fellow police officer a mile away happened and refused to go to the scene. He was suspended but later reinstated once more.
However, there must be something wrong with cowardice because this cop who just got his job back wasn't the only one fired. A fellow officer was ARRESTED for doing the same thing I believe. A lil busy atm, maybe someone(if anyone cares) can find out why.

Public unions shouldn't even exist.
The ones who promote them say we need them to balance our corporations and need more government intervention.
If government is good, why are public unions needed? They are an absolute conflict of interest since they are paid with public tax dollars.

“The ruling found BSO violated Sgt. Brian Miller’s Constitutional due process rights and improperly terminated him,” the news release stated.
According to the deputies union, the Sheriff’s Office had 180 days to notify Miller of their intended discipline but fired him two days after that window closed, which led to the arbiter’s ruling.
Is that true?

Re: The power of the police union....
So the cop can be a scared b*tch if he wants to? No big deal, it's not like that's written in their contracts. But take the dude's gun away and put them in the office. Some cops don't have the hero gene.

Tbh it was probably done on purpose so the department could save public face and claim “they tried” to fire him but that it got reversed on a technicality.
The reality is, police officers are LITERALLY the most fundamental job in any civilized society. If nobody enforces the rules, nobody follows the rules. Period. Society does not exist without police. Officers and departments also know theyre widely resented, and they stick together.
That said, it is a dangerous job, and people arent lining up around the corner to do it. Realistically we cant fire police every time they slip up. Theyre human and there will be many slip ups but police departments arent tanning salons or yoga studios or some shit that it just doesnt matter if they shut down. They have to operate and they have to be staffed or we’re all in a lot worse trouble than we are dealing with a few corrupt cops from time to time. It’s not a happy reality but it’s what it is.
That said, I used to argue that cops are actually underpaid in general, considering all that I just mentioned, and how dangerous and stressful the job is. Knowing now that they simply dont have to intervene in a crime if they dont feel like it and basically can never lose their job... prob gonna have to retract my ‘underpaid’ stance.
